Sherman Cymru announces its 2013 Christmas show cast The Sleeping Beauties
A twist on the classic tale filled with friendship, action and adventure for the whole family this Christmas.

Sherman Cymru’s main stage Christmas production this year is The Sleeping Beauties, a twist on the classic much-loved tale filled with friendship, action and adventure for the whole family from 6 December until 4 January.
Following last year’s Sherman’s Christmas show success with the adaptation of, Peter Pan, Penarth writer Robert Alan Evans and director Róisín McBrinn reunite to create an action packed show, whilst maintaining the key elements of the original Sleeping Beauty tale. But this take has a slightly more modern twist, following the story of not just one Sleeping Beauty but two, Dawn and Eve.
As with the classic story, there is a Queen, a King, a spinning wheel, a curse that entraps the beauties to fall asleep for a long long time and of course a Prince. But the biggest adventure is will their friendship survive when they awake in a different time.
Playing the two beauties are Gwawr Loader (Dawn) who was in National Theatre Wales’s The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning; Clwyd Theatre Cymru’s Sky Hawk, Rape of the Fair Country and BBC Wales’s Indian Doctor, and Bettrys Jones playing Dawn’s best friend, Eve, who was Megan in Channel 4’s Skins and performed in the National Theatre’s Edward II and Warhorse, National Theatre Wales’s Praxis Makes Perfect and at the RSC.

Playing the Prince will be Adam Scales who was one of the lovable Lost Boys in Sherman Cymru’s Peter Pan last year and recently performed in Theatr Iolo’s Here Be Monsters.

Matthew Bulgo returns to Sherman Cymru’s Christmas show as The King, after recent performances in Tim Price’s I’m With The Band and National Theatres Wales’s Praxis Makes Perfect.

Playing the bad guy will be Gruffudd Glyn returning to Sherman after recently starring in Sky 1’s Stella, S4C’s Hinterland and who has recently been filming the new Thor: The Dark World.

Following her recent performance at WOMAX, actress, singer and musician Lisa Jên Brown will be using her vocal and acting talent for The Sleeping Beauties and will be a magical storyteller who will guide the audience on their journey with the two beauties. Lisa Jên Brown who is known as singer with folk band, 9Bach has also has a wealth of acting experience performing with National Theatre Wales, Dirty Protest and Theatr Bara Caws. Lisa will be performing songs that have been composed by Lucy Rivers, who had a huge success with her dark comedy musical production, The Bloody Ballad at Edinburgh this year.

Cardiff born actress, Molly Vivers will be returning to her Welsh roots after spending most of her childhood in Scotland and will be making her Welsh debut.

Audiences can expect the usual high quality family treat which makes an ideal alternative to panto for Christmas. The Sleeping Beauties will be on from 6 December – 4 January 2014.
