WALES & WEST UTILITIES CONNECT WITH NEWPORT COMMUNITIES BY SUPPORTING YOUNG PROMOTERS

Wales & West Utilities, The Riverfront and Newport City Council have joined forces to create a new project to promote local talent and provide valuable work experience in the arts and entertainment industry for young people. The Newport Young Promoters will be local young people aged between 11 and 25, who will be given the skills to stage and manage events in Newport and pass on their skills and expertise to mentor local community groups.

The Young Promoters is the latest project by the Newport City Council Arts Development and The Riverfront’s teams, following on from the success of a similar project Newport Music Academy which won the coveted Arts & Business Cymru Business & Community Award 2013. The success of this project meant that Wales & West Utilities offered all of the finalists for this award the chance to help fund a new project that supports work which benefits individuals in the community. The Newport Young Promoters project fit the bill perfectly and Wales & West Utilities were delighted to help fund it.

Wales and West Utilities, Jaime Falarczyk, Corporate Communications Manager said, "We are delighted to be working with The Riverfront and supporting such an innovative project which allows young people to develop their creative skills and showcase their talents in the community."

Cllr Wilcox said, "I am delighted that support from Wales and West Utilities is enabling The Riverfront to extend and enhance the activities that young people can engage with, adding value to the work already underpinned by the City Council's funding. In particular, this new initiative will give the participants skills in promotion and management of events that have the potential to increase their employability in the future."

The Newport Young Promoters are looking for talented and committed individuals who are interested in event management and promotions. These individuals will be aged 11-25 and will be mentored by experienced professional staff from The Riverfront and the Arts Development Team giving them valuable experience in a professional arts organisation and highlighting career paths within the arts. If you or someone you know might be interested in taking part please phone 01633 656677 or email the.riverfront@newport.gov.uk

The chosen Young Promoters will use their talent and skills learnt to help stage manage and promote a number of existing events at The Riverfront including the International Community Arts Day performance, Sessions events, Big Splash and the Comedy Port Festival. These talented young people will also use their experience gained to help mentor local community groups and help them to improve their own events.
