There is not long to go until Cardiff plays host to a GIANT pantomime spectacular. Jack and the Beanstalk starring Julian Clary, Wales’ own Mike Doyle and West End star Dan Burton will be at the New Theatre from Saturday 14 December 2013 – Sunday 19 January 2014. Audiences at every performance will see Jack do battle with one very mean giant, find his true love and save the village in this year’s unmissable pantomime adventure. All ages will be captivated by Jack and the Beanstalk. Full of panto magic, hilarious comedy, extravagant costumes and catchy songs, this is pantomime at its very best! Julian Clary, in his role of Spirit of the Beans, is set to help Jack take on the meanest giant Cardiff has ever seen. Julian has established himself as one of the country’s most recognisable and popular stage and television entertainers. He has turned his hand to comedy, acting, presenting, writing and he even performed as a novice dancer on Strictly Come Dancing, where he reached the final! As well as his autobiography, Julian has become an accomplished novelist with a number of bestsellers to his credit. He is a hugely popular panto performer and has headlined some of the biggest pantomimes around the UK. This will be his Cardiff panto debut. Joining Julian is Wales’ own Mike Doyle, a panto veteran whose showmanship, comic timing and rich singing voice score a hit with audiences every time he steps on stage. He will be donning his frock again this year in the role of Dame Trot, Jack’s mum Famed for his show-stopping sense of humour and powerful voice, Mike is an acclaimed star of HTV, BBC Wales, radio and theatre. His sell-out one-man shows play to theatres all over the UK and in Europe. Since winning Opportunity Knocks in 1988 he has become one of the most multi-talented performers in the UK, appearing on numerous television series and programmes including The Royal Variety Show, Des O’Connor Show, Celebrity Squares and The Generation Game. He received Stage Comedy Newcomer of the Year at the British Comedy Awards and had his own network series for both BBC, Something for the Weekend, and for HTV The Mike Doyle Show. In London’s West End Mike received great critical acclaim for this portrayal of the Big Bopper in Buddy at the Victoria Place and Vince Fontaine and Teen Angel in Grease at the Dominion Theatre. Mike performs regularly as a headline act for some of the world’s finest cruise lines. Taking the title role, West End star Dan Burton has appeared in many great musicals, playing iconic characters such as Kenicki in Grease, Amos Hart in Chicago and Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys. He was part of the original London cast of Dirty Dancing at the Aldwych Theatre and has previously appeared at the New Theatre in the Opening Gala for the International Festival of Musical Theatre. Following the record breaking success of last year’s Sleeping Beauty, audiences are keen to get their seats for their annual treat.
