The First Time Machine, presented by Run Ragged Productions

The First Time Machine, presented by Run Ragged Productions The First Time Machine, presented by Run Ragged Productions, is an extraordinary family show featuring dance, theatre, live music and even man-eating bears, and will be embark on a three-week tour of Wales in January. The production will visit Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff on the 21st and 22rd of January.

Created and performed by the grandsons of Enrique Gaspar (who invented the very first time machine in his novel El Anacronopete) the audience is taken on an incredible sci-fi odyssey into the past with a healthy smattering of deeds of derring-do along the way.

Before Dr Who, before Back to the Future and even predating H.G Wells's iconic novel of the same name there was Anacronopete – The First Time Machine. Brothers Treays, both professional dancers, present a show fuelled by the shared stories of their childhood, the wealth of possessions that make up their grandfather’s legacy and the universal desire to get to now our ancestors.

Jem Treays, one of the grandsons and also artistic director of Run Ragged Productions comments:

“One hundred and ten years after my grandfather's death I wanted to use my experience as a dancer and choreographer to create a time machine onstage with my brother Aidan. We are fortunate to have at our disposal a fantastic family archive of materials with which to create our own machine: His possessions, his writing and the stories passed down to us by our grandmother. For us it's about finding the story that's in our blood and enabling us to reinterpret the past, shape the present, envisage a new future and most importantly take the audience on an enthralling journey through time. I also wanted to bring an element of Victorian showmanship, even Pythonesque humour to the stage that will hopefully entertain and amuse.”

The First Time Machine is Run Ragged’s second major show having received considerable acclaim for its previous production 'Out of The Box', a show for 3 – 8 year olds. Based in Cardiff, Run Ragged Productions was established by Jem Treays in 2011 to create intelligent, accessible and vibrant dance and theatre work for family audiences. The First Time Machine embodies the aspirations of this company by creating a dance performance full of passion and intelligence.

The First time Machine is on at Chapter in Cardiff 21st and 22nd January at 7pm followed by performances in The Riverfront - Newport, The Borough Theatre - Abergavenny, Pontardawe Arts Centre and The Muni in Pontypridd in February.
