MOSCOW BALLET La Classique presents GISELLE at Swansea Grand Theatre

MOSCOW BALLET La Classique presents GISELLE at Swansea Grand Theatre Music: Adolphe Adam
Libretto: Vernoy de Saint-Georges, Theophile Gautier & Jean Coralli
Choreography: Marius Petipa after Jean Coralli & Jules Perrot

The world-renowned Moscow Ballet - La Classique performs the romantic ballet, Giselle, for one night only at Swansea Grand Theatre on Wednesday 12th March at 7.30pm.

Giselle is a classic ballet and equally popular today as when it was first performed over 160 years ago. With its haunting musical score, Giselle is evocative, moving and powerful as it shifts scenes between the fantastic ethereal and rustic existential worlds. Little wonder it was proclaimed the triumphant successor to La Sylphide and the greatest ballet of its time!

The beautiful village maiden, Giselle, is courted by the handsome stranger, Loys, who is Prince Albrecht in disguise. Her rejected suitor Hilarion reveals Albrecht's deceit in the presence of a hunting party which includes Albrecht's fiancé, Princess Bathilde! Shocked and distressed, Giselle dies of a broken heart.

Within a moonlit glade at the site of her grave, Albrecht sees the ghostly form of Giselle in the midst of her new-found sisters, The Wilis (sylph-like spirits of young maidens who have died before their marriage) in their graceful dances through the forest. As Albrecht enters, she is compelled by their Queen to dance Albrecht to death! Is Albert saved? Will true love win the day?

The greatest success of Russian theatre is undoubtedly classical ballet, an area in which Russian dancers, aided by some of the world's greatest choreographers, have reigned supreme since the 1820s. Moscow Ballet - La Classique, founded in 1990 utilising ballet dancers from the leading theatres of the CIS Countries and the Bolshoi, Kirov and Ballet Theatres of Kiev and Odessa, carries on this tradition.

Tickets for this evening of spellbinding ballet are available from the Box Office on 01792 475715 or can be purchased online at www.swanseagrand.co.uk and are £16.50 - £22.50* with selected concessions available.
* All tickets are subject to a 50p Restoration Fund contribution.
