Wales Millennium Centre presents enhanced programme of free activity for the February half term and St David’s Day weekend

With a commitment to offer a wide range of free opportunities and a drive to engage the whole community, Wales Millennium Centre has released details of its full programme of family-friendly activity for the February half term (24 – 28 Feb) and St David’s Day weekend (1 & 2 Mar).

A major highlight of the programme is the extensive number of free daily workshops, including a craft workshop offering a different challenge every day, from daffodil bunting to felt finger puppet making. Keen to support a wide range of art forms, the Centre will also be offering an exciting insight into urban arts through a daily graffiti workshop. Also on offer is an identity board workshop, where participants will be able to get creative and express themselves and their Welsh connection through art, either on a giant public canvas or a personal cut-out.

The Centre’s permanent and free child-friendly activity space, The Milipwts Den, will be open as usual across the half term for little ones to discover and explore a fun and colourful world of theatre, dance, music and words, along with the help of the Milipwts - Ogi, Dyfi, Lecsi and Ponti.

Offering a chance to view some of the finest artwork to have come out of Wales in the last decade, the AUR exhibition will also be on display, featuring works form the last ten years of Eisteddfod gold medal winners.

Rounding off the half term, Wales Millennium Centre will be marking St David’s Day with a weekend devoted to celebrating Wales’ past, present and future. Free live performances will take place across the weekend, from distinctively Welsh performers such as Brigyn and Côr y Mochyn Du, to the fun and quirky antics of Kitsch and Sync. A special St David’s Day exhibition will also be on display, featuring art from local school children from St Mary the Virgin Church in Wales Primary School and Mount Stuart Primary School. And for little ones wanting to make artwork themselves, free mini make and do workshops will show them how to make wonderful Welsh trinkets.

Mathew Milsom, the Centre’s Managing Director, said: ‘As a parent myself I want to ensure that everyone knows about the extensive programme of free activities we put on for families as well as the community at large. Many of our visitors return regularly, but I want to welcome more new visitors too, people who might never have thought of coming to the Bay. As the programme for Half Term and St David’s Day will demonstrate we are increasing the range and number of activities, to further enhance the visitor experience to the Centre, especially on weekends and during the school holidays’.

Wales Millennium Centre will be open daily from 10am during the half term. For more information on family activity please visit: www.wmc.org.uk/makeityours/families/
