On Sunday 23rd February over 100 young dancers will descend upon Galeri, Caernarfon for U.Dance Cymru 2014: North Wales Platform – a showcase of some of the best youth dance in Wales. Youth dance companies from across North Wales will share a stage with National Youth Dance Wales for an evening that celebrates the talent that Wales has to offer through a wide range of styles, including; street, dance-theatre and contemporary dance. Hosted by National Youth Arts Wales, this will be the third, annual U.Dance Cymru platform in North Wales and dance companies were quick to sign-up to participate in what is a unique opportunity for young dancers from across the region to share a stage together. Participating groups in 2014 are: Yr Academi / The Academy (Conwy), Autonomy (Conwy), Pwllheli School of Dance and Performing Arts (Gwynedd), NEW Dance Youth Company (Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham), Dawns i Bawb Youth Dance (Gwynedd), and The Unknown (Conwy). National Youth Dance Wales (NYDW) will perform Scuse me while I kiss the sky, choreographed by the dancers and NYDW Guest Choreographer, Theo Clinkard during their annual residency last summer, which premiered to enthusiastic audiences at Sherman Cymru and Clwyd Theatr Cymru in September 2013. During the course of the day, prior to the evening performance, the groups will have an opportunity to see each others’ work. “Increasingly, young dancers are being encouraged to see other young dancers dancing. It demonstrates that they are part of a thriving and vibrant, Wales-wide youth dance community.” says Suzanne Robinson, Development Co-ordinator for National Youth Dance Wales (NYDW). U.Dance Cymru 2014 also offers an opportunity for Wales’ young dancers to connect with peers from England, Scotland and Northern Ireland via the U.Dance 2014 Festival, which takes place in Nottingham this summer.
