Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru announces new Associate Director
27 February 2014

Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru are very pleased to announce that the director Sara Lloyd has been appointed as the new Associate Director of the company. Sara will be joining Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru from March 2014 and will be working from the company’s main office at Y Llwyfan, Carmarthen.

Originally from Anglesey, Sara has worked as an actress for over a decade for the theatre and television. She’ll be a familiar face to viewers of Gwaith Cartref, as she plays the part of Louise in the popular S4C series on S4C, and has also played a key role in the first couple of episodes of acclaimed drama Y Gwyll/Hinterland on S4C/BBC.

Sara’s directing work varies greatly. In 2013 she directed her first full play for Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, Pridd by Aled Jones Williams. The one-man show went on tour around Wales’ theatre venues during November 2013. Owen Arwyn won the award for the Best actor in the Welsh Language at the Welsh Theatre Critics Awards this year for his role as Handi Al in the play. Sara has also directed work for Cwmni Frân Wen, Sherman Cymru and Dirty Protest. Sara said regarding her appointment;

“It’s a pleasure to join the Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru team. I’m eagerly looking forward to developing and creating work, and get the chance to work with Welsh artists. The company is in the middle of a very exciting period, and I’m looking forward very much to developing the company’s work further. It’s a privilege to be following in the footsteps of Elen Bowman in the job, as I got into directing because of Elen.”

Sara will be working closely with the company’s Artistic Director, Arwel Gruffydd and with actors and other artists to develop new work. Arwel said;

“We’re very pleased that Sara will be joining us here in Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru. Sara is a very talented director – this was proven by her marvellous work on Pridd – and she’ll be a great asset to the company as we develop new work and an exciting artistic program for the future.
