In celebration of 100 years since his birth CLOWN IN THE MOON (the title of a poem written when Dylan was 14) is a dramatic portrait of the poet's chaotic, frequently hilarious, and all too brief life. Located in a BBC studio, it sets some of Dylan's famous broadcasts and iconic works alongside vivid reminiscences of his clownish antics in pubs, bars and parties, and his encounters with a host of eccentric and volatile women. This solo show is directed by the award-winning director and actor Gareth Armstrong (Shylock, My Darling Clemmie, Rape of Lucrece, Becoming Marilyn) and is written by award-winning writer GwynneEdwards (Burton, Dylan Thomas in America). Rhodri Miles (Richard II-Hollow Crown Series, Eastern Promises, Atlantis, Game of Thrones) returns to the stage at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on Friday 28 March, to play Dylan Thomas after his previous sell-out tour of the critically acclaimed 'Burton', winner of the 'Best International Show' at the Hollywood Fringe Festival - 2010. “Having played Richard Burton in the critically acclaimed solo show ‘Burton’ to packed houses around Wales and England for the last four years (also earning a best actor award at the inaugural Hollywood Fringe Festival in 2010) Rhodri Miles has teamed up once again with ‘Burton’ award winning writer Gwynne Edwards (Burton, Dylan Thomas in America) for this latest production - Dylan Thomas ‘Clown in the Moon’ directed by acclaimed director Gareth Armstrong (Shylock, My Darling Clemmie, Rape of Lucrece, Becoming Marilyn) “I will be running out of Welsh iconic figures after this” says Rhodri.” The most important thing to remember when playing famous figures (just look at Michael Sheen’s creations) is to capture the person’s essence as opposed to doing a straight impersonation. I think this piece about the famous poet’s life is hilarious throughout and Gwynne has worked wonders once again filling the piece with the whit, cleverness and genius associated with Dylan Thomas (interwoven with renditions of his most famous works) with the later darker poignant aspects of his life leading up to his untimely death in New York at 39”. Since leaving the Metropolitan Police, Rhodri trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and has been a professional actor for over fifteen years. Film credits include David Cronenberg’s ‘Eastern Promises. TV work - Richard II- Hollow Crown Series, Atlantis and most recently the upcoming series of Game of Thrones. Theatre credits - ‘Burton and as Ludovico in a run of Othello at Sheffield Crucible, directed by Daniel Evans and starring the ‘Wire’ actor’s Dominic West and Clarke Peters. “Dylan Thomas:Clown in the Moon” is co-produced by the Grand theatre Swansea and is supported and funded by the Arts council of Wales The performance starts at 7.30pm.
