The Marriage of Figaro is one of the finest operas ever written, featuring sublime music and well-known arias. Beautifully staged and sung in English, with elegant 18th century costumes designed by Gabriella Ingram, and performed by some of the finest singers and orchestral players in the country, Figaro promises an enchanting evening’s entertainment. With a plot full of intrigue, The Marriage of Figaro takes place after the events in The Barber of Seville and it recounts a single day in the palace of the Count Almaviva in Spain. The Count has designs on one of his maids, Susanna, who is going to be married to Figaro, the Count’s valet. Figaro, Susanna, and the Countess conspire to embarrass the Count and expose his infidelity. At night, all find themselves on the palace grounds, where a comic series of cases of mistaken identity results…. Commenting on their latest season, Brendan Wheatley, Artistic Director says: “This year, thanks to funding from Arts Council England and Arts Council Wales, our performances are accompanied by a pre-performance talk at each venue where I’ll talk about Mozart, The Marriage of Figaro, and the production, as well as the trials and tribulations of touring opera the length and breadth of the UK.” “The talks are a chance for people to find out more about Mozart and to share their enthusiasm for opera –whether an established interest or a growing passion - with likeminded people. We love meeting audiences and hearing their insights into the opera on stage.” Cast Count Andrew Mayor Countess Elin Pritchard Susanna Helen Massey Figaro Aris Nadirian Cherubino Rebecca Goulden Marcellina Imogen Garner Bartolo/Antonio Brendan Wheatley Basilio/Don Curzio Martin Quinn Barbarina Georgina Stalbow Director BrendanWheatley Musical Director John Beswick Set and Costume Design Gabriella Ingram |
