2014 marks the centenary of Dylan Thomas’s birth. To celebrate this you can indulge yourselves in Dylan walks, Dylan exhibitions, Dylan lectures, Dylan Horse rides, Dylan weekends, to name but a few! Plus of course you can enjoy various productions of his works and poetry readings. All very fine and enjoyable I’m sure, but how much do they tell you about the life and loves of this complex genius? One that does, and should not be missed, is Louche Theatre’s production of ‘PORTRAIT OF DYLAN’ by Tony Layton. This beautifully written piece sets out to trace the life of Dylan from his early childhood in Swansea to his untimely death in New York, aged just 39. It has been extremely well researched by a man who has a great knowledge of Dylan Thomas and his world and works. All the events and characters are factual, and it therefore gives us a full, frank and fascinating insight to his life – Dylan was a talented writer, broadcaster, severe critic and a man who enjoyed a varied and colourful love-life….and alcohol! Director, Harry Durnall said, “I’ve researched Dylan Thomas myself for various productions over the years, but quite frankly I’m amazed at the details Tony Layton has unearthed. It makes for a spellbinding production that is a theatrical delight” Louche Theatre will be presenting ‘Portrait of Dylan’ as part of the DYLAN100 FESTIVAL, on Friday 2nd May to Sunday 4th May at the MORLAN CENTRE, QUEENS ROAD, ABERYSTWYTH, at 7.30pm. There are also matinees on both the Saturday and Sunday at 2.30pm. Louche Theatre Box Office is now open on 01970 612617 or book on-line at www.louchetheatre.com . This production is not suitable for those under 12 years old. |
