DANCE ROADS OPEN PROCESS ON TOUR

DANCE ROADS OPEN PROCESS ON TOUR
Five innovative choreographers will share their work with audiences as part of an international partnership programme that supports the development of innovative choreographers from Wales, France, the Netherlands, Italy and Canada.

The touring programme of five short works opens in Montreal at the start of May and then tours including Cardiff later that month, along with France, Italy and the Netherlands. This follows an international residency in Cardiff last September for 13 artists from the five countries. The artists are now presenting their finished pieces.

Dance Roads is an international partnership programme supporting the development of innovative choreographers from Wales, France, the Netherlands, Italy and Canada.

Carole Blade of Coreo Cymru, said, “The touring programme of five short works promises a diverse evening of quality contemporary dance, ideal for the first time dance audience and regular attenders.”

DROP is the first Welsh led dance project to be funded by the EU Culture Programme and aims to develop and expand the provision currently available to the small-scale contemporary dance sector in Europe hosted by Coreo Cymru, Chapter and the Dance Roads international partners.

Carole continues “The support from the EU Commission has enabled the network to also research and explore other cross border dance networks. Out of that research we have started to develop an interactive map as a resource for the wider dance community and whilst still a work in progress we are asking dance organisations across Europe to help us complete the picture.”

The interactive maps can be found at www.dancenetworks.eu

The performance package will be accompanied by workshops, promoter events, audience development schemes and educational tools developed in partnership with the participating artists, mentors and co-organisers.
The Director of Mosaico Danza explains the various programmes they are hosting in Italy as part of the tour. “We are delighted to host the second international promoters platform following the success of Cardiff’s in September last year and will be working with the Netherlands Dance Roads partner to develop an educational programme which focuses on storytelling in dance as well as hosting choreographic workshops with the artists for local school children.”

Artistic Director of Montreal based Tangent says “Nowhere in the dance world can a young choreographer experience an extended tour of five cities, like that of Dance Roads, in the close company of four other dance companies who together form a temporary critical community of colleagues while on the road.”

Cardiff based dance artist Jo Fong is representing Wales and says. “ I’m so thrilled to be able to present and tour Dialogue – A Double Act as part of this international bill. The opportunities so far have been immense, there has been plenty of exchange and in terms of development for the work - it has been in depth, yet fun and wholly supportive.”
