Arts Council of Wales and Wales Millennium Centre announce exciting new internship scheme |
Applications are now open for two twelve month, paid internships funded by the Arts Council of Wales. The new vacancies, within Wales Millennium Centre’s thriving Community Engagement team, are targeted at those with a passion for working with the many diverse communities of Wales. The successful applicants will begin their placements with the Centre from the beginning of May and will play a key role in shaping the future of the Centre’s Community Engagement programme. In addition to working on large scale projects as part of the Centre’s 10th anniversary programme, successful applicants will embark on a further three placements - locally, nationally and internationally - with the aim of broadening their experience working with diverse communities within the arts sector. This is the second round of Arts Council of Wales internships following a highly successful internship scheme between 2012 and 2013 which saw two Welsh-language interns gain invaluable experience in arts venues across the country and abroad. Maggie Dunning, Development Officer for the Arts Council of Wales, said: “It’s vitally important that we support those who wish to develop a career in the arts, and following such successful placements last year, the Arts Council of Wales is pleased to be able to continue to offer this support, especially in an area that needs further attention and resource from the arts sector in Wales.” The interns will be working with the Creative Learning and Community Engagement team at Wales Millennium Centre and will be charged with developing innovative programmes that meet the needs of the multicultural community of Wales. They will have both a good working knowledge of these communities and a passion for arts and culture. Newly appointed Artistic Director at Wales Millennium Centre, Graeme Farrow, said of the new opportunities: “We firmly believe that arts and culture will benefit from the new ideas and perspectives presented by a workforce drawn from all sectors of society. We’re looking forward to extending our community engagement team here at the Centre and know that the results will aid the Centre in its founding principle; to be a place for all people - of all ages and backgrounds - to participate in the arts.” To find out more about the two new paid internships and to apply, head to www.wmc.org.uk.
