Verve 2014

Verve 2014
National Dance Company Wales’ home has some Verve!
Verve promises a dynamic and passionate performance by 12 dancers trained at some of the world’s leading conservatoires and includes four thrilling contemporary dance works choreographed by acclaimed artists Lea Anderson, Ben Duke, Gemma Nixon & Jonathan Goddard as well as emergent artist Jamaal Burkmar.

Lea Anderson’s quirky new creation for Verve, Re-wind, is a full company piece, an unusual step for Anderson who famously usually works with either all-female or all-male casts. Lovers of both dance and music will be enthralled by Jamaal Burkmar’s Ocean, an incredibly passionate, fast-paced work set to be an unfaltering show-stopper. Ben Duke’s creations effectively combine theatre and dance; his meticulous characterisations helping his company win the UK’s most prestigious prize for dance, The Place Prize. And completing the programme, ex-Rambert dancers Gemma Nixon & Jonathan Goddard bring years of experience as dancers at the top of their game to create their first work for Verve.

“The evening was eclectic and well balanced and the dancers looked strong as performers and as an ensemble. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for ‘ex-Verve’ dancers in the future and I look forward to Verve’s new edition next year.”
