Rebecca Collins presents Re-Imagining Llanbedrog at Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s performance (round) studio Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th May 2014 7.45pm as part of the Open Platform programme. Re-imagining Llanbedrog is a creative investigation into place and people’s memories. Llanbedrog, on the Llyn peninsular, has been an important destination for Rebecca’s family since the 1950’s. Not only her parents but also her grandparents and their parents spent almost every summer there – that is until she was born. After discovering numerous photographs of her family and of Llanbedrog beach life from the early 1950’s, not to mention a vast amount of kitsch picnic paraphernalia e.g. picnic basket, flask, and blanket she became curious and keen to explore the place for herself. This performance combines fragments of a personal story with oral tales of a popular tourist resort. It not only provides a way to investigate place and people’s memories, but also re-imagines a family’s past no longer in existence. Developed with the kind support of WalesLab, a National Theatre Wales initiative and in partnership with Aberystwyth Arts Centre.
