Free family fun every Saturday at Wales Millennium Centre

This half term Wales Millennium Centre launches ‘Clwb Milipwts’, an exciting programme of free family activity every Saturday. From 24 May 2014, join the Milipwts – Ogi, Lecsi, Ponti and Dyfi - Wales Millennium Centre’s culture loving characters, as they share their passion for literature, dance, music and theatre through a variety of free activities and workshops.

Inspired by the world of performing arts, shows visiting the Centre and national and international cultural events, Clwb Milipwts will provide little ones with a fun packed introduction to the exciting world of arts and culture. Kicking off on Saturday 24 May, Clwb Milipwts will be celebrating Gwanwyn (‘Spring’) with Milipwt character Dyfi, a glamour-snail who loves to dress up and perform. Activities on the day will have a distinctly spring-like theme, and linking in to the Wales-wide Gwanwyn festival celebrating creativity in older age, the Centre is encouraging children to bring along their grandparents for a day of song writing, craft and beautiful Henna hand painting.

Saturday 31 May will also be celebrating Gwanwyn, with activities inspired by wise book-beetle Ogi. There’ll be plenty of story-telling and books to read, along with a magical ‘memory-tree’ where children can plant their favourite memories. On 21 June, Ogi returns to celebrate Refugee Week with plenty more storytelling, poetry and a giant map of the world to explore.

Further highlights from the weekly programme include a War Horse themed day on 28 June filled with puppetry and inspired by dance loving Lecsi. On 23 August, music loving technibug Ponti will be flying in for some DJ-ing workshops to celebrate Breakin’ the Bay.

Louise Miles-Crust, Head of Programming at Wales Millennium Centre, said: ‘We’re really pleased to be extending the Centre’s family offer to include a day of programmed free activity every week, helping to make the Centre the perfect place to visit with the children on the weekend. Our child friendly activity space, the ‘Milipwts Den’, has been a great success and a brilliant way to interest little ones in the world of performing arts. It’s great that we can now extend our family offer with a fun and exciting programme of workshops and activities to further engage children in the arts.

‘Clwb Milipwts’ will take place every Saturday at Wales Millennium Centre from 24 May 2014. For more information visit www.wmc.org.uk/makeityours/families/
