GRITTY NEW PLAY TO PREMIERE IN NEWPORT
The Game is an original piece of writing by Alexandria Reynolds of Newport, South Wales. A suspense thriller that stars local, professional actors and that will be Young Dog Productions' first theatre project since being founded.

Young Dog Productions' is a community based multimedia production company. The two founders, Alex Reynolds and Tahnee Craven, have 20 years of collective experience in the Arts Industry and have dedicated themselves to delivering original and exciting media projects that seek to engage and inspire their audiences as well as creating an accessible hub for new creative talent. The Game will be the first theatre project of many that the two will work on as a team.

THE PLAY
“You're in control. You have to start telling yourself that. People will think what you let them think, believe what you want them to believe, feel how you want them to feel. You are capable Layla. It's all about the illusion. Just a game, which you can stop playing anytime you like. Now, do you want to play?” Jasper Henry. A young property developer from ‘out of town’. With no knowledge of his past, or where exactly he has come from, his mystery excites and intrigues the local residents, including Layla Martin. After a brief and unconventional first meet with Jasper, Layla finds herself immediately consumed by him. Aware of this, Jasper forms a close connection with Layla, informing her that she would be his ‘little project’.

Introducing her to a world of manipulation, power and sexual control, Jasper moulds Layla, unleashing things inside her that she had spent her life trying
to hide. Jasper and Layla embark on a ‘game’. Taking on different characters each night, seducing strangers for the thrill, controlling them and deciding on the outcome. Whilst playing out these fantasies, Layla’s attachment to Jasper verges on obsession. A need that she has to have. Craves, and when other ‘players’ threaten to stand in the
way, Layla experiences a rage that she didn’t know she possessed.

Thriving on this, Jasper continues to push her, testing just how far Layla is
willing to go.However, when Jasper’s past begins to rear it’s ugly head, Layla panics. Shebecomes disgusted, afraid and jealous of the things she hears. Quickly snapping back to reality she struggles to try to untangle herself from Jasper’sweb of fantasy, but when Layla finds herself being questioned by the police as a direct suspect of a young woman’s murder, she realises it may be too late.

THE WRITER
Alexandria Reynolds is a fresh new writer from Newport. Recently graduating from the university of South Wales she quickly made her mark with an urban adaptation of Romeo and Juliet: From the Streets which sold out at The Riverfront Theatre and left a lasting impression on all who were involved. Both Newport city radio and Wales arts review had great things to say about the show which you can find on their websites.

The play was recently asked to be performed again due to the amount of people who missed out on tickets the first time around!  With this success, Alex has decided to put another piece of her work into production , The Game.

Prior to this Alex graced the stage herself as an actress and singer, with one of her most memorable performances being at The Riverfront Theatre as the support act for british soul sensation, Omar.

Alex had her first taste of writing for screen last year with her short film I’m Here through It’s my Shout productions. Other credits include What about Love which sold out at the Dolman Theatre and Belonging, a piece co-written for Project Fio which was performed at Wales Millennium Centre early this year. The Game will be coming to The Riverfront Friday 18 and Saturday 19 July, tickets are £10.50 and you can book by visiting www.newport.gov.uk/theriverfront or by calling 01633 656757.
