PRINCE MADOG’S SAILORS ARE READY FOR THEIR VOYAGE AROUND WALES – STARTING THIS WEEKEND! |
Following months of preparation, MORDAITH ANHYGOEL MADOG, Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch’s brand new and biggest ever production is ready for its six week tour which begins this Sunday! MORDAITH ANHYGEOL MADOG (Madog’s Amazing Voyage) is a theatre production for families and for schools and will be performed in six venues across Wales in the next month. Created by Jeremy Turner, Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch’s Artistic Director, the production is based on the tale of Prince Madog and his crew of sailors from North Wales, according to the story, they were the first EVER to discover America, 300 years before Columbus landed! “This important story is told through the eyes of ‘Berwyn’, a young boy who finds himself aboard the ship with Prince Madog and his rowdy crew” Jeremy Turner Within the hour long production, the crew face several challenges aboard the ‘Gwenan Gorn’, Prince Madog’s famous ship; fighting the vicious sea snakes, rough storms, surviving without food and drink. The combination of the dramatic storyline, live music and an amazing set which contains an 8 meter ship results in an amazing voyage for the whole audience. “It’s very rare to get the opportunity to experience such a large scale Welsh language production for families. After seeing the dress run yesterday I was in tears! It’s such a powerful and delightful production I’m sure children and families throughout Wales will remember this production for years to come” Heulwen Davies, Marketing Officer, Arad Goch. The cast includes Rhodri Trefor (Madog), Iwan Charles (Rhiryd), Chris Harris (Berwyn), Osian Rhys (Wmffra), Endaf Eynon Davies (Dylan), Mark Roberts (Hefin) and one brave lady, Ffion Wyn Bowen who plays Tirion. As well as the actors on stage there are three musicians, Simon Lovatt, Talwyn Baudu and the author/director Jeremy Turner. “I have been fortunate enough to work with Arad Goch for over eighteen years and I must admit that this is one of my highlights so far. I feel truly fortunate to be part of such an exciting and large scale project” Ffion Wyn Bowen The stage production is part of a multi platform project. Since launching MORDAITH ANHYGOEL MADOG at the National Eisteddfod in 2013, Arad Goch have worked with hundreds of children across Wales to ensure that as many children as possible have experienced the project in way or another. “Children and young people from Cardiff’s Clocswyr Bro Taf worked with us and Gavin Ashcroft, to create a Madog flashmob! It was amazing and was performed four times to hundreds of people in the City Centre in May. We’ve conducted drama, arts and craft workshops for children in schools in Rhyl, Llansannan and Ceredigion and we’ve also worked with drama club students in Rhydaman. We offered a week long programme for children in the Urdd Eisteddfod in Bala and over 600 children took part, helping us to create a 20 metre mural of Madog’s beach! Heulwen Davies, Marketing Officer Arad Goch. www.madogaradgoch.org A new website has been created allowing children, families and schools to follow the backstage process. It also includes interviews about sea life today, weekly competitions as well as hundreds of photos from the various workshops. Also on the website are resources for Welsh learners, produced by Arad Goch and Welsh for Adults to ensure that non Welsh speaking families and learners can enjoy the project. www.criwmadogaradgoch.org A new blog which allows the audience to meet the characters ahead of the show.
