Wales Millennium Centre announces upcoming shows
Packed with some of the largest West End shows, Wales Millennium Centre hosts an eclectic programme of musicals, dance, opera and circus this autumn season.

Musical Highlights
Having opened in the West End in 2012, The Bodyguard [16 – 27 June 2015] will visit the Centre as it embarks on its first UK and Ireland tour. Based on the Warner Bros. film which featured Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston, expect to hear classic songs such as Queen of the Night, Run to You, I Have Nothing, I Wanna Dance with Somebody and the hugely popular I Will Always Love You. This Christmas, audiences will be able to enjoy one of the most successful musicals from the West End. The Lion King [6 November 2014 – 11 January 2015] will form part of the Centre’s tenth anniversary celebrations in a nine week run at the Centre with the much loved story of Simba and his journey from cub to king of the pridelands.

Drama Highlights
The National Theatre returns to the Centre next spring, with the highly acclaimed drama The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time [13 - 18 April 2015]. When Mrs Shears’ dog is found dead, fifteen year-old Christopher sets out to find the killer, unaware of the incredible journey his investigations will take him on. The Frozen Scream [11 - 20 December 2014] promises to hold audience’s captive in fear and suspense as it recounts the tale of a spine-chilling murder. It’s co-written by best-selling Welsh novelist Sarah Waters whose books include Tipping the Velvet and The Night Watch, and Olivier Award winning writer and performer Christopher Green. The Frozen Scream will offer a unique, alternative performance in the Weston Studio, which showcases some of the best of small-scale theatre from Wales and beyond. In a different vein, renowned travelling theatre company, Footsbarn, will present Cuckoo’s Nest [18 – 20 September 2014] from their bespoke venue in the Oval Basin. Incorporating music, puppetry, masks and projection, Footsbarn, in their distinctive style, bring an imaginative twist to Ken Kesey’s original text ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’.

Opera and Classical Highlights
Expect a witty comedy of errors to relish when Mariinsky Opera perform Prokofiev: Betrothal in a Monastery [2 November 2014]. Wales Millennium Centre has had a long standing partnership with Mariinsky Opera and the Centre looks forward to welcoming them at back with this tale of mistaken identities. As part of their visit, the Mariinsky Chorus will also perform Rachmininov: Vespers [6 November 2014] in the beautiful setting of Llandaff Cathedral. Providing a tremendous programme of entertainment, the Centre’s partners, Welsh National Opera and BBC National Orchestra of Wales, form part of the autumn season. Welsh National Opera’s upcoming Liberty or Death! [12 September – 29 November 2014] season features the classic Carmen by Bizet, with new productions by Rossini of Moses in Egypt and William Tell. Including one of Mozart’s most popular, their spring season Spellbound 2015 [7 – 28 February 2015] will feature The Magic Flute, Hansel and Gretel and Chorus!; an opera extravaganza featuring Lesley Garrett. BBC National Orchestra of Wales present their popular series of Afternoon Concerts [September – December 2014] with an array of music from Ravel to Janáček, Delius and Zemlinsky.

Dance and Circus Highlights
Dance and circus from across the world are part of the ever eclectic programming at the Centre. Gracing the stage in both October and March, Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures ballet company delve into William Golding’s chilling novel Lord of the Flies [22 – 25 October 2014]. Starring talented young dancers scouted from across Wales, these youngsters will dance alongside the exceptional New Adventures cast. This, followed in March by Edward Scissorhands [10 - 14 March 2015], which will bring the Tim Burton film to life on stage. The Brazilian carnival comes to Wales this October with internationally acclaimed dance company Grupo Corpo [14 & 15 October 2014]. The company combines the precision of classical ballet with the sensuality and passion of Latin dance rhythms forming a uniquely virtuosic performance. From Brazil to Quebec, Cirque Éloize transport performers between dream and reality in their latest show Cirkopolis [8 – 11 April 2015]. Set in an imposing factory-city, giant gears and dark portals symbolize a mechanism that crushes individuality. In a combination of circus, dance and theatre, acrobats and performers rebel against the monotony and reinvent themselves.
