STUCK IN THE MUD

STUCK IN THE MUD Although Stuck in the Mud is narrative-free, there are strong themes of the joys of love, life and throwing off labels, and that anyone - regardless of age, body shape, ability or disability - can enjoy dance and dancing. !

Stuck in the Mud is proudly family-friendly with its accessible themes and magical set pieces but also because the audience doesn’t stand still - fidgety children are welcome and the route is wheelchair and buggy friendly. It is free-to-watch and operates in spaces that audiences may come across by chance and enjoy something unexpected and wonderful that day. !

The dance moves through its performance spaces - the audience being led by stewards - as pieces of various lengths are performed by the company comprised of disabled contemporary dancers from GDance and ballet dancers from Ballet Cymru. The show opens
with dancers from the local community performing pieces directed by the GDance choreographic fellow, Viv Gordon, and finishes with a large, joyful ensemble piece with the whole company, based on the eponymous children’s game. !

In Llandudno, Stuck in the Mud begins at the newly restored Victorian train station, moves to MOSTYN art gallery and finishes in the town centre. Dancers from the community come from a local primary school and local adult dancers. !

In Cardiff, the performance is on and around the Wales Millennium Centre’s Glanfa stage. Stuck in the Mud is collaborating with Hijinx Theatre - a professional theatre company based at Wales Millennium Centre - and Sherman Cymru’s INC Youth Theatre. Both Hijinx and INC are integrated companies, working with actors with learning disabilities. !

Depending on the needs of the community dancers, regular rehearsals with local teachers take place within the schools or organisations over a couple of months; then the week before the show: five days of rehearsals with the whole company, Marc Brew and Viv Gordon. !

Normally tour dates of dance performances might need a day to set up. But this kind of integration of community dancers (rather than just as a show opener) plus the adaptation to the performance site requires much more preparation and rehearsal. !

The original music is by up-and-coming composer Jack White, with live French Horn accompaniment
