THE PRIMITIVE VOICE

THE PRIMITIVE VOICE
Led by Jean-René Toussaint and Anne-Marie Blink

Friday 15 November - Sunday 17 November
Aberystwyth, Wales

In the course of our lives we develop a social voice which disconnects itself from its natural richness in sound - the primitive voice.

Together the voice and the body produce a natural process where each develops and stimulates the other. The 'Primitive Voice' offers the opportunity to explore vocal and total body expression (physical and emotional) with one of the foremost voice practitioners in the world today, Jean-René Toussaint. The workshop is not so much a learning process, but 'a process of unfolding', enabling each participant to rediscover their 'primitive' voice.

"a wonderful and enlightening workshop for anyone who is interested in the voice. I recommend it heartily".

Kristin Linklater, Chair of Columbia University's Theatre Division and author of "Freeing the Natural Voice".

Suitable for: Singers, Actors, Voice Teachers, Dancers, Therapists, Health Professionals and anyone who wants to discover the potential of their voice.

The workshop will explore:

· Listening (feeling, sensing, being aware, being available)
· Moving (being moveable, nomadic, emotional)
· Taking Support (transforming energy, being connected, using the environment)
· Letting Go (surrendering, less control, being surprised)

Jean-René Toussaint, a French actor, director, theatre and voice teacher has been developing his voice work for the past 20 years, and has served as founder and director of Stichting Rondom Stemwerk (Foundation Around Voice Work) in Rotterdam, The Netherlands since 1988. He has collaborated with artists such as Jerzy Grotowski, Robert Wilson, Annick Nozati, and companies such as Festival d'Avignon, Theatre de Radeau, Theatre de Feu, The Living Theatre, Bread and Puppet Theatre and the Roy Hart Theatre.

The 'Primitive Voice' Workshop will start on Friday 15 November from 6.30pm -8.30pm with a singing session led by Anne-Marie Blink. Jean-René Toussaint will lead a full-day session on Saturday, 10am - 5pm and a half-day session on Sunday, 10am - 1pm.
