Following a highly acclaimed touring production of Britten’s Albert Herring last year and fresh from their spring tour of Handel’s Acis & Galatea, Mid Wales Opera return to the Coliseum Theatre on Thursday 2 October to celebrate their 25th season. World famous opera director Jonathan Miller teams up with MWO's Artistic Director Nicholas Cleobury to create an exciting new production of the much loved favourite of the operatic repertoire - Georges Bizet's Carmen. Bizet’s masterpiece is the tale of the captivating Carmen who seduces the naive Don José and whisks him off on a journey of love, loss, betrayal and jealousy, ending in tragedy when, in a passionate rage, Don José kills Carmen in one of the most dramatic moments in stage history. This intense and intimate production - performed in English with a translation by Rory Bremner features classics such as the Habanera and The Toreador Song in a new orchestration of Bizet’s legendary score by world-renowned opera and music theatre composer Stephen McNeff, commissioned especially for the Mid Wales Opera Chamber Orchestra.
