NATIONAL THEATRE WALES & DIRTY PROTEST ANNOUNCE DIRTY, GIFTED & WELSH 2014 |
Following the success of 2013’s festival in Treorchy, National Theatre Wales and Dirty Protest are teaming up once more for a jam-packed celebration of Welsh writers and writing for performance, in the heart of Cardiff. Dirty, Gifted & Welsh 2014, an all-day English-language theatre lock-in and writing festival including readings, debates, a Quiz Quest multimedia pub quiz, workshops, speakers, a dirty disco and much more, will be held at the Angel Hotel, Castle Street, Cardiff, on Sunday 12th October, from 11am until late. Writers are invited to come along and have their own work performed. They can sign up for a Scratch Space on the day or in advance at nationaltheatrewales.org/community. Tickets Dirty, Gifted & Welsh 2014 are available at £5 each from here or £7 cash only on the door. It is recommended for ages 14+. The inaugural Dirty, Gifted & Welsh was held in Treorchy’s Park & Dare Theatre in October 2013, as part of National Theatre Wales’ month-long residency there. Launched in 2007, the company has worked with over a 100 Welsh writers, staging new sell-out plays in alternative venues, from pubs and clubs, to kebab shops, hairdressers and a forest. Dirty Protest put on established and wannabe writers on the same platform creating new work and new writing. The company has most recently performed at the Royal Court Theatre, Almeida Theatre, Latitude Festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2014, it won Best English Language Play (Critics Choice) in the Theatre Critics of Wales Awards for its staging of Katherine Chandler’s Parallel Lines.
