Theatr Mwldan, Cardigan | AberteifiDydd Iau 16 Hydref :: Thursday 16 October, 7.15yh/pm £16 (£15) KENNETH MACMILLAN’S BREATHTAKING BALLET, MANON, OPENS THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE LIVE CINEMA SEASON 2014/2015 Thursday 16 October 7.15 PM The ROH Live Cinema Season 2014/2015 opens on Thursday 16 October with a live broadcast of Kenneth MacMillan’s masterpiece Manon, a breathtaking and tragic love story with Marianela Nuñez in the title role and Federico Bonelli as her faithful love Des Grieux, which will be screened live at Theatr Mwldan at 7.15pm. From the sumptuous designs of Parisian society to the dust of New Orleans, Manon and Des Grieux’s passionate and ultimately tragic love story is mesmerizing viewing for cinema audiences around the world. Manon is considered to be one of the most challenging roles in The Royal Ballet repertory radiating innocence, beauty and recklessness as we watch true love being abandoned in pursuit of a world of wealth and splendour. This capricious character was described by MacMillan as ‘not so much afraid of being poor as ashamed of being poor’ and it is this desperation that leads to Manon’s heartbreaking downfall. Bringing the story to life is the sheer power, drama and physicality of the dancers that can be caught up-close on camera. Celebrating the production’s 40th anniversary at the Royal Opera House, Manon is based on the novel by French writer Abbé Prévost. The role of Manon was originally played by Antoinette Sibley with Anthony Dowell continuing to portray Des Grieux over ten years after the opening night in 1974. Other famous dancers such as Darcey Bussell and Sylvie Guillem have performed the title role, whilst Monica Mason, former Director of The Royal Ballet was MacMillan’s muse for the role of Lescaut’s mistress. Manon, which will be streamed live from the iconic Covent Garden stage, is a performance not to be missed.
