A CHILD'S CHRISTMAS IN WALES Adapted and directed by Michael Bogdanov from the short story by Dylan Thomas with music and lyrics by Jack Herrick

Olivier Award-winning Director Michael Bogdanov Tony-winning composer Jack Herrick tour the final event in the Dylan Thomas 100 Festival, with a cast of ten actor/musicians,  and promise 'a joyous snowball of music and laughter for all the family' at Aberystwyth Arts Centre
Monday 1 – Wednesday 3 December

Dylan Thomas' story of his childhood memories of Christmas has become a firm favourite for generations of children in and beyond Wales. This adaptation, the climax of a year-long celebration of his life and works, is an evocative picture of Dylan’s early years, drawing on many of his short stories and broadcasts to create childhood wonderland of snowbound memory. Performed by a cast of 10 actor / musicians the production captures the wonder of a Christmas time of almost a century ago as seen through a child’s eyes as the older Dylan looks back in at his six year old self and asks ‘Did it really snow for twelve days and twelve nights?’

"A wonderful adaptation of 'A Child's Christmas in Wales'. It can be enjoyed by adults and children alike, and through humour and music, it shows Welsh culture at its best."
Hannah Ellis (Thomas' Granddaughter)

A Child's Christmas in Wales is a feast of Dylan Thomas's astonishing imagery, his humour, his humanity and his acute observation of human behaviour. Touring to Milford Haven, Newtown, Carmarthen, Llandudno, Cardiff, Aberystwyth, Brecon and Bangor the show will be a fitting finale to the Dylan Thomas 100 Festival.

Michael Bogdanov's career began assisting Peter Brook as the RSC on the epoch changing production of A Midsummer Night's Dream in 1970. He frequently directed at the RSC (including winning an Oliver Award for his radical feminist Taming of the Shrew in 1979) and as Associate Director at the National Theatre he directed 15 productions (including, controversially, The Roman's in Britain in 1980). In 1986 he co-founded the English Shakespeare Company with Michael Pennington and his Olivier Award Winning WARS OF THE ROSES toured internationally for five years. He became Chief Executive of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus
Hamburg for four years and works throughout Europe. He founded The Wales Theatre Company in 2003. Michael is also devising and staging THE DYLATHON , a 36 hour, no-stop reading of the works of Dylan Thomas on the poet's Centenary at Swansea Grand Theatre.

The music and lyrics have been specially commissioned from one of America's leading folk song writers Jack Herrick, leader of The Red Clay Ramblers who won a Tony Award on Broadway for their part in Fool Moon and their music has featured in the films of Sam Shepherd along with the TV series Northern Exposure.

Cast includes: Kathryn Dimery, Russell Gomer, Heledd Gwynn, Stephen Hickman, Mali Llywelyn, Terence Mortimer, Jak Poore, Dafydd Rhys Evans, Lauren Roberts.
