Season Launch - February – August 2015, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru Today, (December 4, 2014), Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru is delighted to announce the artistic programme for February – August 2015.



Y FENYW DDAETH O’R MÔR will open at the Torch Theatre on February 26 (with a preview on 25 February) before touring to Aberystwyth Arts Centre (3 to 4 March 2015) Sherman Theatre (12 and 13 March) Ffwrnes, Llanelli (16 and 17 March) and Clwyd Theatr Cymru (20 and 21 March).



This is a new translation by Menna Elfyn of Henrik Ibsen’s psychological classic Fruen fra Havet (The Lady from the Sea), directed by Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s Artistic Director, Arwel Gruffydd. Max Jones and Ruth Hall are the co-designers, Ceri James is the lighting designer, Matt Jones is the sound designer and Dan Lawrence the composer.

Heledd Gwynn will be playing Elida to Dewi Rhys Williams’ Dr Wangel. The full cast includes Siôn Alun Davies, Siân Davies, Richard Elis, Elin Llwyd, Siôn Ifan and Seiriol Tomos.

Elida, the daughter of a lighthouse keeper, yearns for the freedom of the sea. Far from her childhood island home, she now swims in the stagnant waters of a perfect life… trapped by the picturesque Norwegian landscape, caged by a loving marriage. But then a stranger from the past pays an unexpected visit and she’s forced to confront her darkest fears. Suddenly she needs to make the most difficult decision imaginable…to leave or to stay?

A new play by Siân Summers will be on tour in May, directed by Aled
Pedrick, called PAN OEDD Y BYD YN FACH (When the world was small). Opening at the Gwyn Hall, Neath, the play will tour to other theatres in Wales during May and June including Sherman Theatre, Taliesin, Mwldan, Lyric, Y Stiwt and Galeri, with full dates to be announced soon.

In a quiet spot far from the fury of the picket line, a group of boys get together early one morning to show their support. But not everyone is welcome, and one violent and shocking act is about to change their lives forever.

In June 2015, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru will co-produce for the first time with National Theatre Wales and S4C. Numerous celebrations will take place across

Wales and Patagonia in 2015 to mark the 150th anniversary of the founding of Y Wladfa, the Welsh colony in Patagonia. Creative Director Marc Rees has been commissioned to create a site specific production marking this celebration. Key moments from the history of the colony will be interwoven with film of contemporary Patagonia and presented at the Royal Opera House stores near Aberdare. This location is significant to the story of Y Wladfa as 66 of the original 150 settlers who travelled to Patagonia in 1865 aboard the Mimosa hailed from this area. The performance will be presented in Welsh, English and Spanish.

NANSI will be performed at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 2015, written by Angharad Price and directed by Sarah Bickerton. The production will be staged at The Institute, Llanfair Caereinion, and will tell the colourful story of Nansi Richards, the ‘Montgomery Harpist’ and ‘Queen of the Harp’.
