Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch to set up 'Young Theatre Critics – Aberystwyth’
Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch are offering young people from Ceredigion and surrounding areas a fantastic opportunity, a free bilingual workshop to train young people how to become theatre critics. The workshop will take place at Canolfan Arad Goch, Aberystwyth between 1 – 3 o clock on Monday the 9th of February.

“There is a lack of young theatre critics outside South Wales, particularly Welsh speakers. As a company who specialises in producing theatre productions for children and young people, we encourage regular dialogue with our audiences and we’re pleased to work in partnership with Young Critics Wales and local businesses in Aberystwyth to set up a workshop that is the first of its kind in Mid Wales” Jeremy Turner, Artistic Director of Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch.

“The Young Critics scheme is keen to work with organisations such as Arad Goch to develop a new generation of theatre critics across Wales.” Guy O Donnell, Young Critics Wales.

During the workshop, the young people will attend a performance of Arad Goch’s new production ‘Do I Have to Wake Up?’, the third in a series of interactive performances for young children performed by Ffion Wyn Bowen, Mark Roberts and musician Mari Morgan. Following this, acclaimed theatre critic Lowri Hâf Cooke, who regularly appears on S4C and the BBC, will use the performance as a basis for discussion as she shares her top tips on how to write theatre reviews.

“The workshop will be an opportunity to explore and exchange ideas and to inspire young people to review performances” Lowri Hâf Cooke

At the end of the session, representatives from the new Aberystwyth EGO magazine and Keith Morris from www.theatre-wales.co.uk will meet the young people to inform them that these two Aberystwyth based businesses are keen to publish their reviews. They will also meet representatives from Aberystwyth Arts Centre, and learn how they can help the young people as they search for performances to review.

Following an interview about this event on BBC Radio Cymru’s C2 on Tuesday 13th of January, Arad Goch are pleased to announce that Radio Cymru are also keen to work in partnership with us to provide a platform for the Welsh speakers to review theatre performances live on air.

There is no doubt that this is a fantastic opportunity for young people and as a result over 30 students and six form pupils have already signed up. Any additional young people interested in attending the session must get in touch with Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch’s Marketing Officer Heulwen Davies by the 20th of January.
