Works can be of any type of combination media, including original prints. Sculpture, photography and three dimensional works are excluded. Works can be handed in to the Royal College of Art, London on 29 & 30/11/02 and 01/12/02, 10am - 5pm. There will be a regional collection point in Cardiff on 28/11/02 outside Chapter Arts Centre, 3pm - 6pm. Approximately 100 works will also be selected to form an exhibition at the Royal College of Art, 12 - 20/02/03. The entry fee is 10 per work. Please send an A4 SAE for an entry form. This definition includes all music that falls between rock/pop and classical. Primarily the genres Modal assists are roots, folk, world, jazz and fusion. The annual Modal Live convention is being held for the ninth year from 11-13 April 2003 in Sheffield. The convention programmes live performance showcases; the organisers aim to provide a platform for quality acts who will be largely new to delegates from the industry and who are available for live performance bookings. Modal Live attracts a high proportion of managers, promoters, venue managers, festival and event programmers, publishers and record labels keen to discover and support new talent. Artists are generally offered 30 - 45 minute slots and payment will cover basic UK travel costs. The competition aims to encourage the writing of plays for theatre in both English and Welsh. In addition to the cash prizes awarded to winners, successful entries will be considered for publication and performance. An adjudicating panel selected by DAW will judge all entries and make awards in the following categories: * First prize 125.00 * Second 65.00 * Third prize 35.00 The main eligibility criteria are: * Only one-act plays for the theatre may be entered. Plays written for TV or radio will not be accepted. * Plays must be unpublished and unperformed * Playing time must not exceed 50 minutes * Scripts submitted must give no indication of the identity of the playwright. A different pseudonym must be used for each play submitted * Scripts must be accompanied by a completed entry form and an entry fee of 7.50. Managed by the government-funded Carbon Trust, Action Energy provides the information, advice, practical help and financial support needed to start reducing energy costs. Action Energy also offers small and medium-sized businesses interest-free energy loans of between 5,000-50,000. Design advice is also available, for energy-efficiency and environmentally conscious building design, with up to two days of free consultancy and 30% subsidy towards further days available. Energy surveys are free and on-site, conducted by an Action Energy consultant, to assess the overall energy use and draw up a savings plan. There is also additional consultancy support for a more detailed assessment of specific issues such as process or buildings improvements, or the feasibility of combined heat and power. Up to two days of free consultancy plus a 50% subsidy towards further days are available. Lawyers For Your Business is a specialist scheme that was set up by The Law Society to provide practical support to people who are starting a new business or running a small or medium-sized business. The scheme is run by over 1,200 solicitor practices throughout England and Wales, all of whom have experience in business-related work and want to work with the business community. Members of the scheme offer a free half-hour consultation. The guide addresses the following areas: * setting up in business * employing staff * contracts with customers and suppliers * taking on leased premises * raising money for a business * structuring a business * health and safety at work Lawyers For Your Business also provide a free set of detailed guides on each of these topics. The project uses technology similar to that employed by mobile phone companies to let computer users connect to the Internet for free. Arwain members are building a pilot network in Cardiff using off the shelf and license-free wireless network technology and developing free software to manage the connections. The project uses wireless technology, transmitting the internet via an antenna or special access point, with no need for cables or wiring. Several 'hotspots' - large aerials - have been set up around the city, and users will require a card (approximately 30) and their own booster aerial (approximately 40) to start using broadband. The service is already available in many areas of Cardiff, with plans to extend the network to Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent and further afield in the future. In North Wales the Wales Digital College has been running a similar scheme, 'e-fro', in Dyffryn Ogwen using the same wireless technology. Five projects will share the funding. These include: *950,000 to help create sustainable and prosperous rural communities. The Strategic Towns & Villages Initiative will aid the development of small and medium-sized businesses in rural parts of Carmarthenshire, creating opportunities for business growth and carrying out environmental improvements to attract and retain business. The project includes a Rural Conversion Grant to help in converting rural buildings to business use. *1,050,000 shared between two Rural Services and Thematic Fund projects. The projects will deliver rural service initiatives identified by local communities, such as community-owned enterprises, youth projects and heritage activities. *170,000 for a project administered from the Rural Business Development Centre at Nant-y-Ci, Carmarthen, to improve the rural economy. The scheme will encourage the development of community businesses and provide employment opportunities. Training will have a practical focus, and will include opportunities for undertaking work placements and work shadowing. The following areas will be covered: * Making a living as a writer * Working in health and social care * Literature development * Performance and presentation skills * Training for disabled writers in writing for performance media * Marketing and small-scale fundraising skills Options range from intensive traineeship programmes, residential courses and one day seminars to mentoring, coaching and skill sharing opportunities. Within the next 2 months the Consortium will launch a website, www.literaturetraining.com <http://www.literaturetraining.com> which will provide the sector with online access to a range of information on training and professional development opportunities across the UK and sources of funding available for professional development. The Trust hopes to receive applications from a diverse range of organisations and individuals and is purely for the support of performing arts projects. Applicant organisations may include education / outreach departments of regional theatres, touring theatre and dance companies producing work for young people, and youth theatres. Awards made under the Pulse scheme fall into the following three categories: * Awards of up to 3000 Examples: research time for a writer, or for an educational group to produce a play or workshop * Awards of up to 10,000 Examples: to assemble a creative team , to develop and run targeted education workshops * Awards of up to 40,000 Examples: for funding all aspects of a production or touring a production with additional funding from another source.
