Win a Pig at The Sherman this Christmas

Adapted from the original story that inspired the blockbuster film BABE, The Sherman Theatre Company’s production of Babe, The Sheep Pig, stays true to the original book by Dick King Smith. The little piglet Babe, is won by Farmer Hogget in a ‘Guess the weight of the Pig’ competition at the local village fair. The Sherman is now holding it’s very own ‘Guess the weight of the Pig’ competition with a difference! The general public are invited to guess the weight of the actor who plays Babe.

The Sherman Theatre has formed a unique relationship with The Amelia Trust Farm, a highly respected charity based in the Vale of Glamorgan and together they are offering a fantastic FIRST PRIZE…. The person who guesses the exact weight of Gareth Wyn Griffiths or the closest guess will win for one year their very own adopted pig! This fantastic prize will also include a special one off visit to The Amelia Trust Farm where they will meet their new addition to the family!

The winner will be given the opportunity to pull on their wellies and get good and dirty by helping to muck out and look after their new pig. The pig that they will be able to adopt will be a Berkshire Gilt (female) pig called Lucky, who produces approximately two litters a year. The winner will then be able to visit Lucky throughout the year, when they might even get the chance to see their own little Babes grow up.

The general public are invited to guess how much the actor Gareth Wyn Griffiths actually weighs in his Babe costume, and they can either fill out one of the specially designed flyers (available in the Sherman) or just send their guesses with their contact details to: The Sherman Theatre, Senghennydd Road, Cardiff CF24 4YE. There will be a public weigh-in on Friday 20 December at 1pm in the Sherman foyer. Gareth is of a slim build and has joked that… “I might only weigh 6 stone at Christmas, with all this running around in rehearsals!”

Alongside Gareth Wyn Griffiths who plays Babe will be Lucy Rivers as Fly, Dyfrig Morris as Farmer Hogget and Bethan Morgan as Mrs Hoggett. Nick Evans, Iwan Tudor, Nia Davies and Mark O’Connor make up the rest of the main performers. The production will use original music by Paula Gardiner and set design by the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama’s Head of Design, Sean Crowley and will be directed by The Sherman’s Artistic Director, Phil Clark.

Babe, The Sheep Pig by Dick King Smith and adapted by David Wood will be at The Sherman from Friday 15 November 2002 until Saturday 11 January 2003. Tickets are available from the Sherman Theatre Box Office on 029 2064 6900 and are priced at £8, £10 and £12 with £2 off for reduced tickets. The Sherman are also offering Family Tickets for up to four people at £24, £30 and £36. The public weigh-in of Gareth Wyn Griffiths will be on Friday 20 December at 1pm in the Sherman’s foyer
