Final 3 plays revealed for Sherman Cymru’s new writing event TAITH

Sherman Cymru is thrilled to reveal the three playwrights whose short plays have been selected for the very first TAITH event on 26 June.

TAITH is Sherman Cymru’s new initiative that develops and nurtures Welsh and English language playwrights, offering feedback, skill development and opportunities for playwrights to undertake a process of development with the Sherman team before their work is performed in the Studio.

Twice a year Sherman Cymru will invite submissions for 10 minute plays, in Welsh or English, on a specific theme, style or subject. This time the specific theme around Social Uprising, taken from Gary Owen’s outstanding new play Iphigenia in Splott, and in light of the General Election.

Sherman Cymru’s script reading panel, which is made up of a range of established Welsh and Wales based professionals including: writer Kelly Jones and Sherman Cymru’s Playwright in Residence Katherine Chandler, Sherman Cymru’s Associate Artist Producer John Williams; and Pluen founder Elgan Rhys, read all of the submissions and, with the Sherman Cymru Creative Team, select the final three.

Artistic Associate, Gethin Evans said; “The panel were looking for bold, inventive and original writers who can appeal and connect to modern audiences. We had an incredible response to the call out with work of an extremely high standard being submitted from a diverse group of writers. The three that were chosen demonstrated real potential, and we have found complete variety within the three pieces. We can’t wait to see what audiences will think of the plays when they are performed on 26 June.”

The final three chosen scripts were; Two Sons by Greg Glover, My Electric Soul by Catherine Dyson and Dros Y Mynydd by Glesni Haf Jones, and will be performed at the Sherman Theatre on 26 June from 7.30pm. Tickets for TAITH are £8 and available from / 029 2064 6900.
