Cardiff Bay is set to turn rainbow coloured this summer as Blysh festival (24 Jul – 2 Aug) returns in an explosion brightly coloured power, music, dance, circus, sequins, street theatre and cabaret. Offering two weekends packed with free family-friendly shows suitable for all the family during the day, there’ll also be something of a naughtier nature for adults by night. www.wmc.org.uk/blysh Festival Highlights Rounding off the first weekend of events, The Color of Time (26 Jul), will reinvent India’s traditional Holi festival in a rainbow eruption of multi-coloured powder, music and dance. Following a choreographed parade around Cardiff Bay, The Color of Time will culminate in a spectacular finale outside the Centre where colourful gulal powder will be thrown into the air in joyful celebration. (Wales Millennium Centre is looking for participants to take part in the parade. Visit www.wmc.org.uk/TakePart/blysh15/BlyshCall for more info.) The following weekend will see Lost in Translation Circus: La Ballade de Bergerac (1 Aug) amaze audiences with their spectacular aerial techniques. Drawing inspiration from the steampunk era and Cyrano de Bergerac, enter the wacky world of poet and visionary Monsieur de la Luna and his crew as they attempt to journey to the moon. Free Family Shows Through-out the two weekends there’ll be a lively and eclectic mix of free events for all the family, from an acrobatic dance routine involving shopping trolleys to storytelling inside a beautiful transformed caravan. There’ll be a dark comedy exploring our addiction to technology and a hilarious attempt to make The Most Dangerous Cup of Tea involving The Whirling Hatstand of Death. Kitsch and Sync return as cyber space cadets and Blysh regular Dan the Hat will be making an appearance with his trademark hat manipulation, yo-yo artistry and juggling. Blysh by Night As night falls, Wales Millennium Centre invites audiences into its Weston Studio for entertainment of a more adult nature. Part gameshow, part variety show and part disco, join Miss Behave (24 & 25 July) for an evening of prizes, games and grown-up silliness, or join in with Musical Bingo (1 Aug) – like regular bingo but with big tunes instead of numbers. Back by popular demand, award winning Briefs (24 & 25 Jul) present an evening of birdbath boylesque, aerial acrobatics and show-stopping drag artistes. Head of Programming Louise Miles-Crust commented: ‘I’m extremely excited to see Cardiff Bay come alive with our most colourful Blysh to date and thrilled to be welcoming back Blysh favourites including Briefs, Miss Behave and Kitsch & Sync, along with an impressive range of over fifteen different performances bringing together dance, acrobatics, circus skills, live music and story-telling.
