The exhibition is in association with Creu Cymru's Dance Buddy Scheme, The Riverfront in Newport and choreographer, Sandra Harnisch-Lacey. Sandra's SPIN production was the inspiration for the project and the photographs are selected from the rehearsal phases of her work. The images are mounted in The Riverfront theatre foyer windows and are monumental in scale to capture the elemental aspect of the dancers' work as they flip, turn and spin across the rehearsal room floor. The photographs are shot from ground level which gives the dancers a dramatic presence, enhanced by Sandra's athletic choreography. The exhibition opens during the Wales Dance Platform on Sunday 29 June 2015 and can be seen throughout the summer of 2015. Also showing During the Platform weekend are selections from previous The Beauty and The Grit exhibitions including work from Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon, Rangoli Art Space in Bangalore, Habitat Art Centre in Delhi, the Borough Theatre in Abergavenny and the Park and Dare Theatre in Treorchy. The sixth edition of the project will open shortly at the Borough Theatre in Abergavenny in partnership with Monmouthshire Youth Dance Company and the final exhibition will open in the near future at Swansea's Taliesin Arts Centre, working with choreographer, Phil Williams of Cascade Dance Theatre. |
