First Dance House Resident appointment - Cai Tomos
National Dance Company Wales is delighted to offer Welsh artist, Cai Tomos a week long residency at its home the Dance House from 2 to 6 November 2015.

National Dance Company Wales welcomed submissions from Wales based professional dance artists and choreographers to apply for an opportunity to develop their work at the Dance House studios.

National Dance Company Wales’s Artistic Director, Caroline Finn said, “We were thrilled with the level of interest and quality of applications from such a wealth of Wales based artists. We are delighted to welcome Cai Tomos as a Resident in our home in November and we look forward to supporting the development of his work.
The residency is a great opportunity to allow Wales based artists to develop and research ideas in a studio space environment and with support from the National Dance Company Wales team. We want the Dance House to be a home for dance and dancers, and we welcome more residencies in the future.”

Welsh artists, Cai Tomos is a choreographer and lecturer who has worked with a number of dance and producing organisations across Wales and the UK including Earthfall, The Place and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru.
The Dance House Residency will provide Cai an opportunity to work towards his project ‘Describing Pieces’ which looks at the challenges and perception of dance. His first venture into this research began with a conversation with his mother in 2013 about the fact that she ‘did not understand dance’. He felt inspired to make a piece to purposefully de-mystify and deconstruct what is seen as meaningful in dance.
Cai said, “My intention is to work with “non trained dancers” and to give them the opportunity to work in a professional context and to bring their understanding of dance and the moving body to this context. This Residency at the Dance House will really allow me to explore this theme and project with the support of the National Dance Company Wales team.”

National Dance Company Wales will have future opportunities for Dance House Residencies. See website for future announcements.
