TIR / CELTIC CONCERTO / TRACES IMPRINTED At The Riverfront Theatre, Newport on the 6th and 7th of November at 7.30pm

Featuring Cerys Matthews singing live, Catrin Finch’s outstanding debut composition for harp and orchestra, and a brand new work from one of the UK’s most renowned choreographers, Marc Brew.

Critics’ Circle Award winning company, Ballet Cymru, present an extraordinary triple bill of new work featuring some of Wales’s most outstanding artists.

Following sell-out success of previous performances, Ballet Cymru team up again with singer and national celebrity Cerys Matthews to reprise this iconic work. Cerys’ iconic album of Welsh Folk Music is the inspiration for ‘TIR’, and choreographers Darius James and Amy Doughty have used 11 of the songs from the album to create a unique work especially for the dancers of Ballet Cymru. Her self-produced album of traditional Welsh songs, ‘TIR’, is the biggest selling Welsh language album of the past decade. Cerys herself is playing the music live on stage with the company.
Cerys Matthews MBE was the founder member of multi-million selling Welsh rock band Catatonia and has since become one of the UK’s most respected and talented artists. Cerys won Gold at last year’s Sony Radio Academy Awards for her popular BBC 6 music Sunday morning show, is cultural reporter for BBC’s The One Show, and presents many other radio and television documentaries. Cerys is patron of Ballet Cymru and is a passionate ambassador for music and the arts in Wales and across the UK.

Ballet Cymru teamed up with renowned harpist and Wales-based composer Catrin Finch to produce a stunning new work, based on Catrin’s first composition, ‘Celtic Concerto’.

Catrin Finch is the most accomplished harpist in the UK and is the former Royal Harpist to H.R.H. Prince Charles. ‘Celtic Concerto’ is featured on the No 1 selling album ‘Blessing’, along with works by multi-award winning composer John Rutter, and featuring Welsh chamber orchestra Sinfonia Cymru.

Ballet Cymru present a newly commissioned work from one of the UK’s most renowned choreographers, Marc Brew. Marc Brew is an award-winning Australian performer, artistic director, choreographer and teacher.
Now based in Glasgow, Marc trained as a professional dancer and has been working in the UK and internationally as a professional dancer, choreographer, teacher and speaker with companies including Scottish Ballet, the Australian Ballet Company, Infinity Dance Theatre in New York and with CandoCo Dance Company in the UK. Since 2001 Marc has been dedicating time to his own choreography with Marc Brew Company, producing work to critical acclaim, including the ground-breaking choreographic work for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. This year Marc joins Ballet Cymru as Associate Artistic Director.
