Cardiff based Mercury Theatre Wales have created an immersive Christmas theatre experience production Anamnesis 25.12 which they will perform on a six date tour of Wales in the run up to the festive season.

The production asks the question what does Christmas mean to you? Does it mean tradition, laughter, tinsel, turkey and Christmas pudding? Or is there another side to the festive period that prevents the season from being jolly? This promenade theatre experience offers an alternative look at Christmas inspired by people’s real life stories developed by five established writers who have worked together as an ensemble to create a unique piece of theatre. Four wonderful and contrasting Christmas stories are told by the characters, all linked by their circumstances on Christmas Day. The pieces are funny, poignant, thrilling, frightening and moving with characters and stories with which the audience can identify. This production transports audiences to various thought-provoking Christmas days of excitement, joy, loneliness, longing and a host of other resonating emotions... with the odd carol or two thrown in for good festive measure.

Mercury Theatre Wales is a Cardiff-based theatre company that aims to produce high quality, innovative and thought-provoking work committed to developing Welsh talent and bring to the Welsh stage new pieces of theatre, created to be relevant to contemporary audiences.

In addition to the main performances, the company will also perform a scaled down version of the production at Care Homes across Wales in the run up to Christmas with performances planned in Cardiff, Swansea, Cardigan, Merthyr Tydfil, Mountain Ash and Neath. This will enable residents who otherwise may not be able to see a theatre production to enjoy a performance of high artistic quality and enrich their quality of life through their engagement with the arts.

The cast of Anamnesis 25.12. includes six experienced UK actors who all play number of characters and roles: Bethan Morgan (also Director), Daniel Rochford , David Prince, Francesca Goodridge, Judith Haley and Sam Harding.

Director of the production Bethan Morgan said “The word 'Anamnesis' means both a patient's medical history and a recalling to memory. It's been an amazing journey working with an ensemble of writers and actors in a process of research and development to create a unique piece of theatre for people to enjoy as well as find relevant to their lives today. I know that audiences will really connect to this special Christmas experience.”

Pre-concert entertainment will also be provided by local community groups to add to the Christmas spirit prior to the production beginning at each venue. Community groups to perform include the Oasis Refugee Centre (prior to the Cardiff performance), St. Dogmael's Singing Village (Cardigan), Goodness Gracious Glee Ladies choir (Neath) and Llanelli Musical Players (Swansea).

Anamnesis 25.12. is partly funded by the Arts Council of Wales and the Welsh Government via the National Lottery and is recommended for ages 14+. More details about Mercury Theatre Wales are available at
