Swansea University’s Taliesin Arts Centre teams up with Theatr Cadair to bring a magical new production to Theatr Mwldan on Friday 26 February at 7.30pm. Theatr Cadair’s Director D J Britton has written and will direct this new theatre piece which will entertain the whole family, complete with high quality drama, live original music, stunning puppetry and plenty of humour.Theatr Cadair grew out of the success of its play about David Lloyd George; The Wizard the Goat and the Man Who Won the War, featuring actor Richard Elfyn. Recent ventures include Silverglass (drawn from the curious relationship between writers Rhys Davies and Anna Kavan) and the stage premiere of Chelsea Dreaming the jazz/text sound experiment exploring the final days of Dylan Thomas. This new family drama tells the story of a blind young woman, Betrys, who sets sail from St Bride’s Bay in West Wales in pursuit of her grandfather’s dream, only to encounter Welsh worlds she never imagined and a soul battle of mythic proportions. Audiences will delight in meeting the great Bran the Blessed, lovable rogue, Moondyne Joe, as well as Jenny Gruffudd, (who went to Waterloo) and Gareth y Gannet, the bird-king of Grassholm Island. A co-production between Theatr Cadair and Taliesin Arts Centre, Windsongs of the Blessed Bay is a vivid adventure in theatricality, story-telling, comedy and history and brings together legendary Singaporean puppet master Benjamin Ho and talented young Welsh designer Bethany Seddon to visually startling effect. Windsongs features the work of Wizard writer-director D.J.Britton. Theatr Cadair core member, Gwawr Loader gives a sensitive and intuitive performance as the protagonist, Betrys. She is joined on stage by a Wales-based cast including BAFTA winning actor Richard Nichols and Meilyr Siôn fresh from the stage of Disney’s The Lion King. They are joined by Bethan Mai and Heledd Gwynn. The production also features original music written and performed live by folk favourite Andy Tamlyn Jones, of Boys From the Hill. Director, D J Britton has developed a story which is at once moving, powerful and full of rich humour.
