National Dance Company Wales joins BBC Get Creative Weekend with Free Family events and workshops.

On 1-3 April 2016 BBC Cymru Wales, Arts Council of Wales and What Next? are teaming up for a bumper weekend to celebrate the nation’s creativity and to celebrate the award winning National Dance Company Wales will be running a free Family event and free workshops in Cardiff and Newport on Saturday 2 April.

On Saturday 2 April, National Dance Company Wales will be opening their studio doors at the Dance House, Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff Bay for families to try out their Family Interactive matinee for free!
National Dance Company Wales’ Family Interactive Matinees are ideas for ages 7-11 and are a fun, engaging and creative way to join in and learn more about dance.

As part of the Family Interactive Matinee audiences will get the chance to dance on stage with NDCWales dancers (not obligatory!), ask questions and learn excerpts of the Company’s show.

After the interval, children and their families will have the opportunity to watch NDCWales dancers perform Tuplet, which uses wit and meticulous use of rhythm and timing to create a fun and uplifting experience for everyone involved.

The dancers create their own percussive score which combines with an electronic soundscape featuring snippets of jazz and big band, meaning they can show off their versatility while projecting their individual personalities. The performance is followed by a Q&A session when the children can ask the dancers questions about the show, or their life as a dancer.

The Family Interactive Matinee at the Dance House, Wales Millennium Centre, is free on 2 April as part of the BBC Get Creative Weekend events but tickets much be ordered online through ndcwales.co.uk or 029 2063 6464.

Also on Saturday 2 April, NDCWales will be running free introductory workshops to dance as part of the RawFfest First Bite event at the Riverfront, Newport from 1pm-3pm. Anyone aged 14-25 can dive into the two hour energetic and creative workshop experience led by two professional company dancers, where they will warm up with our dancers and have a go at being creative. Spaces are limited for the two hour workshop and booking is advised beforehand. Please contact the Riverfront on 01633 656757. RawFfest is the new national youth arts festival for Wales and the inaugural festival will take place in Newport in August.

National Dance Company Wales’ Chief Executive Paul Kaynes, said:
“The BBC Get Creative Weekend is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to explore arts and culture in their community. We are part of a UK wide programme and this is an opportunity for participants to try a new creative interest for free. We want to inspire as many young people as possible and get them dancing - especially if they’ve never tried it before.”
