THE ALL-TIME FAMILY FAVOURITE
THE SOUND OF MUSIC
Tues 23 – Sat 27 August

One of the greatest family musicals of all time, The Sound of Music, starring BBC1’s The Voice runner-up, Lucy O’Byrne, as Maria and Coronation Street’s Andrew Lancel as Captain von Trapp, at Swansea Grand Theatre from Tuesday 23rd to Saturday 27th August. Evening performances are at 7.30pm with matinees on Thursday and Saturday at 7.30pm.

Lucy O’Byrne became a household name when she shot to success as the runner-up in the live shows of the TV talent show, The Voice. With chart-topper Will.i.am as her mentor, and biggest fan, Lucy made history as the first classical singer to reach the final, impressing the nation with her stunning vocal range. Now, having recently performed at the BBC Proms, she makes her musical debut as the young postulant, Maria. Her first album, Debut, was released earlier this year.

Andrew Lancel is best known as super-villain Frank Foster in Coronation Street, a role that earned him a 'Villain of the Year' award at the British Soap Awards. He also played DI Neil Manson in the long-running ITV television series The Bill. His numerous stage credits include Bill Kenwright’s touring productions of The Small Hand and Twelve Angry Men. Andrew starred in Epstein: The Man Who Made The Beatles in Liverpool and London.

This wonderfully lavish staging of the classic musical is produced by Bill Kenwright, directed by Martin Connor, choreographed by Olivier Award winner Bill Deamer with musical direction by David Steadman.

It all began with the story of the Trapp Family Singers and Baroness Maria von Trapp’s 1949 autobiography, which inspired Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse to create a Broadway musical in 1959. The Sound of Music tells the true story of the world-famous singing family, from their romantic beginnings and search for happiness, to their thrilling escape to freedom as their beloved Austria becomes part of the Third Reich at the start of WWII.

The unforgettable score features some of the most memorable songs ever performed on stage, including ‘Edelweiss’, ‘My Favorite Things’, ‘Do-Re-Mi’, ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’, ‘So Long, Farewell’ and of course, the title song, ‘The Sound of Music’.

Tickets for this family favourite are available from the Box Office on 01792 475715 ore can be purchased online at www.swanseagrand.co.uk and are £19.50 to £39.50*

ALIENS LOVE UNDERPANTS 3+
Wednesday 31 August
12.30pm & 3.00pm

Laugh your pants off with the number one bestselling children’s story, Aliens Love Underpants, at Swansea Grand Theatre on Wednesday 31 August at 12.30pm and 3.00pm.

This national bestseller and much-loved family favourite is reimagined for the stage for the very first time, with special effects, original music, lots of aliens and many, many pants.

Aliens Love Underpants tells the story of a gang of mischievous aliens on a visit to earth, travelling not to visit to the earthlings, but simply to steal their underpants! Silly, quirky and irresistibly fun, the show follows the aliens as they ransack the washing line on their search for pants, big and small, red or green. They love Grandma’s spotted bloomers, while Grandad’s long johns make for the perfect slide!

The book, written by Claire Freedman and illustrated by Ben Cort, was selected for Richard and Judy’s Children’s Book Club with the help of pupils from schools around the UK, and has been hugely popular since it was first published in 2007.

Tickets for this pants-tastic treat are available from the Box Office on 01792 475715 or can be purchased online at www.swanseagrand.co.uk and are £13.00*
* All tickets include a 50p Restoration Fund contribution. Online booking fee applies.
