MORE GREAT SHOWS FROM GRAND THEATRE SWANSEA NOBODY’S PERFECT
by Simon Williams
Swansea Grand Theatre
Thurs 27th – Sat 29th October

Comedy and chaos are on the menu with the latest offering from theatre company, talking Scarlet. Nobody’s Perfect by Simon Williams is at Swansea Grand Theatre from Thursday 27th to Saturday 29th October at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday at 2.00pm.

Nobody’s Perfect stars Stephen Beckett (The Bill, Coronation Street) and Leah Bracknell (Emmerdale).

‘Love Is All Around’ is the name of a feminist publishing house where Harriet Copeland is running a competition to find new romantic fiction written by women only. Leonard Loftus is trying to get his books published, but Harriet keeps sending his manuscripts back because they are the work of a man.

When Leonard finally sends a manuscript based on his experience as a single parent, and uses the female pseudonym ‘Myrtle Banbury’, Harriet is impressed. She finds the writing superb and insists on meeting Myrtle so she can hand over the prize money and get Myrtle's signature on a contract. In order to collect the money, Leonard is forced to carry on the pretence that ‘Myrtle’ exists, by dressing up as a woman and pretending that he is his own fictitious aunt. Leonard's teenaged daughter, Dee Dee, and his father, Gus, play along with the deception with the inevitable hilarious consequences.

Tickets for this evening of comedy and confusion are available from the Box Office on 01792 475715 or can be purchased online at www.swanseagrand.co.uk and are £9.50 - £16.00* with an opening night 2 for 1 offer and selected concessions available.

THE CHINESE STATE CIRCUS
DYNASTY
Swansea Grand Theatre
Monday 31st October 7.30pm

Over 2000 years of artistry and music combine in an incredible performance for all the family with the Chinese State Circus’ brand new show, Dynasty, at Swansea Grand Theatre on Monday 31st October at 7.30pm.

The Chinese State Circus is more than a show; it embodies a rich tapestry of Chinese art, history and culture which can be dated back over 2000 years. This cultural legacy is permeated through the exhibition of the artistes’ incomparable and distinct acrobatic skills, which have been honed and perfected by their lifelong dedication to their country’s artistic heritage. The resulting circus is a visceral spectacular which takes audiences on an exhilarating journey through Chinese culture.

Chinese acrobatics is a common form of art amongst the people. It has a long history with a distinct national style, evolving from the Chinese people’s everyday life and work. Historical records, ancient carvings and decorative patterns on utensils show the origin of Chinese acrobatics more than two thousand years ago in the period of the Warring States. During the Quin and Han Dynasties (221 B.C – 220 A.D.) acrobatic artistes developed a wide repertoire, and acrobatics was thus called “the show of a hundred tricks.” It reached a high level as a performing art by the Han Dynasty.

The history of The Chinese State Circus itself spans twenty five years and was first conceived in the mind of Creative Director Phillip Gandey after he witnessed a group of Oriental acrobats performing to great acclaim at the Monte Carlo Circus Festival. He was astounded at the quality, depth and sheer diversity of such Chinese Acrobatic Troupes. After working out the logistics of transporting forty five artistes, plus directors, interpreters and five tonnes of props half-way around the world, the rest, as they say, is history!

“This is quite simply a display of the most breath-taking acrobatic skills you’re ever likely to see. It’s a thrilling, colourful and highly entertaining spectacular guaranteed to appeal to all age groups.” The Public Reviews
