Chapter Arts Centre announces first cohort of Peilot Associate Artists |
Last Friday at a special launch event, Chapter announced the group of artists and companies who make up the first cohort of the arts centre’s new Associate Artist Programme, Peilot. The artists and companies that will benefit from a bespoke programme of support from Chapter work in theatre, music, dance and live art. They are: Common Wealth, an artist collective rooted in socialist politics who make site-specific theatre events that encompass electronic sound, new writing, visual design and verbatim; Be Aware Productions, who create innovative performing and audio-visual artworks with an international dimension; Triongl, a theatre company who work collaboratively in both Welsh and English creating work that engages with socially relevant themes with humour and heart; director, choreographer and performer Jo Fong; harpist and artist Rhodri Davies who works within the field of improvisation; and performance artist Tim Bromage, whose work draws on a number of areas including stage magic and folk traditions. Peilot is funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and the Arts Council of Wales, and is designed to formalise and enhance the support Chapter offers to artists at all stages of their careers. The scheme will offer three years of dedicated support to each artist and company to maximise opportunities for touring, partnership working and UK and international collaboration. Peilot Creative Producer Cathy Boyce, comments: “I‘m really looking excited to be working with such a brilliant cohort of artists. Chapter has always supported artists to make new work but up until now that support has always been ad hoc. This project will allow us to give dedicated time and resources to each artist and group and find the best ways to develop their careers and help realise their ambitions. A programme of support will be developed in collaboration with each artist but will include guaranteed presentations in the Chapter programme, rehearsal space, support with funding applications and commissions to develop new work. The most important part of the programme is to connect Peilot artists with new audiences at home and abroad and seek out new collaborators and like-minded partners. I can’t wait to begin work with the Peilot team and help make great things happen.” |
