Award-winning comedy duo LipService celebrate Jane Austen’s life 200 years on with ‘Mr Darcy Loses the Plot’

To commemorate 200 years of Jane Austen, LipService go all Regency!
“The glorious, splendidly silly comic duo” The Independent
“The Laurel and Hardy of literary deconstruction” The Guardian

Austen is dreaming up Darcy, a proud, lip curling, handsome creation in very tight pants. But then a door squeaks, a visitor approaches and Jane hastily hides her writing. Mr Darcy is left dangling. Left to his own devices he embroiders his own storyline while his creator stitches her quilt. When Jane returns, she finds Darcy is diving into a lake in a clinging white shirt, dancing the Berserka (a more extreme sports version of the Mazurka) and wrestling carp.

Multi-award winners Maggie Fox and Sue Ryding play an array of characters, moving effortlessly – well, almost – from frock to frock coat in their inimitable style.

LipService, “Britain’s favourite literary lunatics” celebrate a 30th anniversary this year, next year sees the 200th commemoration of Jane Austen and Mr Darcy Loses the Plot tour is the highlight of this auspicious celebratory season.

Described by The Independent as “literary specialists and comedy duo par excellence” LipService examine the world of the female writer scribbling away in secret or under pseudonyms, squeezing in their writing amongst the hustle and bustle of taking tea, choosing chintz and having the vapours.

LipService have won many awards over the years, most recently The Stage Door Foundation Award for Excellence. They have twice won The Critics Award for Comedy. Their Radio 4 comedy series was nominated for a Writers Guild Award.
