Arts Council of Wales Conference on Career Development and Training in the Arts Sector in Wales In association with Arts Training Wales Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Tuesday 29 – Wednesday 30 April 2003 Hosted by Peter Harding, Head of Arts, Welsh Assembly Government With speakers from the Arts Council of Wales and ELWa A two-day event to consider the results of Arts Training Wales’ research into career development and training in the arts workforce in Wales. During the last year Arts Training Wales has undertaken extensive research on behalf of ACW and ELWa. The research, which has involved hundreds of practitioners and support workers in every artform, aimed to find out how people in Wales can enter a career in the arts and go on to make a living in their chosen artform. Participants in the research programme have been involved in artform steering group meetings at different locations in Wales, others responded to minutes of these meetings via email and more than 500 practitioners have taken part in telephone interviews. The results will be published in a report on 31 March, and a copy of this report will be sent in advance to everyone booking a place at the Conference. The Conference offers a unique opportunity to hear the results for each artform area presented, and to make your contribution to the list of action points which will form the backbone of the new ACW arts training strategy and Arts Training Wales’ development work over the next three years. Two keynote speakers will explore areas critical to development in the arts today. Hugh Adams will talk about portfolio working and Rajendra Patel will share his international experience on such issues as organisational capacity building, equal opportunities and partnership working in the arts. |
