20 October / Hydref The Kala Chethena Kathakali Company has received funding from The Arts Council of Wales and the Welsh Government to bring Kathakali to six venues in Wales and it will be at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on 20 October.

Kathakali is a masterpiece of sacred theatre that erupts on stage with striking visual images that expose the magical world of South India. Nurtured for centuries by the remarkable people of Kerala, Kathakali leads the audience into the entrancing world of storytelling.

There will also be an opportunity to take part in a Kathakali workshop, see the elaborate three dimensional make up, view the costumes and meet the artists.

Before the performance there is a demonstration followed by a short film to lead the audience into the Kathakali play that reflects the rich cultural identity of the people of India, especially the people from Kerala.

The Kala Chethena Kathakali Company includes major world class artists from Kerala, tours nationally and internationally.
