Deathtrap, one of the most satisfying spine-chillers, is coming to Cardiff’s New Theatre, starring Jessie Wallace and Paul Bradley. |
Deathtrap is a masterpiece of seat-gripping, suspenseful writing, and the play continues to hold the record as the longest running thriller in Broadway history. It received a Tony award nomination and was made into a smash-hit film starring cinema legends Michael Caine and Christopher Reeve. It’s now a major touring play which comes to Cardiff’s New Theatre from 10 – 14 October 2014. Written by the award-winning playwright and author Ira Levin (Rosemary’s Baby, The Stepford Wives and Critics Choice) this new production is directed by the just-appointed Artistic Director of Nottingham Playhouse Adam Penford (The Boys in the Band, A Small Family Business and in June 2017, Committee at the Donmar Warehouse). BAFTA nominee Jessie Wallace (EastEnders and Fings Ain’t Wot They Used T’Be) leads the cast as Myra Bruhl alongside Paul Bradley (Holby City and EastEnders) as Sidney Bruhl, Sam Phillips (Clifford), Beverly Klein (Helga ten Dorp) and Julien Ball (Porter). In Deathtrap Sidney Bruhl (Bradley), a once successful writer of stage thrillers, is in the grip of chronic writer’s block. Out of the blue, young playwright Clifford Anderson (Phillips) sends Bruhl one of the only two copies of his brilliant new whodunit, Deathtrap. Desperate to set Broadway alight once more, Sidney spies his chance to invite Clifford to his remote country home. Oh, and to bring the only other copy of Deathtrap with him! If Bruhl can kill the newcomer and pass the play off as his own, he could once again be the toast of Broadway. Deathtrap guarantees to have audiences on the edge of their seats with its ingenious maze of plot twists and turns that keeps everyone guessing until the very end of the play. Ira Levin’s Deathtrap starring Paul Bradley and Jessie Wallace plays at Cardiff’s New Theatre from Tuesday 10 – Saturday 14 October. Tickets are available from newtheatrecardiff.co.uk or by calling 029 2087 8889. The New Theatre is Wales’ winner in the annual UK’s Most Welcoming Theatre Awards, as voted for by the general public. |
