Bernstein’s electrifying Symphonic Dances from West Side Story – from Mambo to Cool - top the bill for Philomusica’s concert at the Aberytwyth Arts Centre on Saturday 2 December. One of Wales’s premier orchestras, Philomusica brings together talented students with leading local and professional musicians to showcase the best in university and community collaboration.Under the baton of David Russell Hulme, the university's Director of Music and an internationally experienced conductor, the orchestra’s programme also features Shostakovich’s exuberant Festive Overture, the atmospheric Pelleas and Melisande Suite by Faure and La Calinda, Delius’s enchanting miniature. Guest soloist for the concert is the Australian horn player, Helen MacDougall, playing Richard Strauss’s Second Horn Concerto. Philomusica concerts are highlights of the Aber classical season – great live music events offering audiences the real deal, as only a live performance can.
