Arts Centre Cinema to Screen Film Starring Two Familiar Faces |
Aberystwyth Arts Centre cinema will be screening Love Is Thicker Than Water, a brand new independently produced rom-com set in London and Wales, and featuring two familiar Ceredigion faces amongst the ensemble cast. The film is co-directed by Ate de Jong – who made 1991 cult classic Drop Dead Fred – and short filmmaker and editor Emily Harris. The film relates the star-crossed romance of middle-class Londoner Vida, played by Lydia Wilson, and an aspiring animator from Wales, Arthur, played by Johnny Flynn. The youngsters fall head over heels, but are given a sharp dose of reality when they realise how radically different their families are – hers well-off, religious, and intellectual, and his down-to-earth, working-class and vulgar. The film is punctuated with modern folk songs by artists such as Laura Marling, Sweet Baboo and others, as well as sequences brought to life by scratchy animation by Nate Milton, emphasising moments of emotional intensity. The cast features some very familiar faces, including Henry Goodman and Juliet Stevenson as Vida’s parents, Sharon Morgan as Arthur’s mum and Ellie Kendrick (Meera in Game of the Thrones) as Vida’s sister. The film also features Dylan Raw-Rees as Gareth, a friend of Arthur’s family, and Hedydd Dylan as Annwyn, another potential love interest for Arthur. Dylan recently starred in A Thin Place, a film made in Borth, after many years of appearing in local productions. Aberystwyth native Hedydd Dylan has been treading the boards for over a decade, and was most recently seen in Sherman Cymru’s hugely successful production The Cherry Orchard. The film screens at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on December 20th, at 8:15pm, and tickets are available now. The film can be seen in various other Welsh venues through the first months of 2018, including The Magic Lantern, Tywyn, in January. Aberystwyth Arts Centre is a department of Aberystwyth University, and a member of the Institute of Literature, Language and the Creative Arts. It is a revenue funded organisation of Arts Council Wales.
