CASTING ANNOUNCED FOR SHERMAN THEATRE’S PRODUCTION OF CONOR MCPHERSON’S DUBLIN CAROL

CASTING ANNOUNCED FOR SHERMAN THEATRE’S PRODUCTION OF CONOR MCPHERSON’S DUBLIN CAROL The cast for Conor McPherson’s Dublin Carol at Sherman Theatre has been announced. The production, directed by exceptional director Matthew Xia (Wish List, Royal Exchange Theatre & Royal Court), will run from 1 – 17 Feb at Sherman Theatre (Press Night 5 Feb 7pm).
Playing Mark is Julian Moore-Cook, most recently seen in Mother Courage and her Children with Josie Lawrence at Southwark Playhouse; Siwan Morris (Bird, Sherman Theatre & Royal Exchange Theatre) plays Mary, a ghost of Christmas-past who arrives attempting to initiate change; and Simon Wolfe, last seen at Sherman Theatre in Conor McPherson’s The Weir, takes on the role of bitter, belligerent and darkly humorous John.
Director Matthew Xia says “I'm thrilled to be making my Welsh directorial debut in Cardiff at the Sherman, and with such a tremendous play. Conor McPherson has created a story analogous to Dickens' Christmas Carol - yet the spirits visiting our Scrooge come in liquid form and the ghost of Christmas past only has a small request. This play, like all of Conor's writing, is full to the brim with compassion, humanity, pathos and a brilliantly dark humour.”
Dublin Carol is the first production in Sherman Theatre’s eagerly anticipated Spring 2018 Season. Plagued by the unshakeable ghosts of his past an Irish undertaker relives the bleak story of his destructive life and alcohol abuse.

Mae cast Dublin Carol gan Conor McPherson yn Theatr y Sherman wedi’i gyhoeddi. Bydd y cynhyrchiad, wedi’i gyfarwyddo gan y cyfarwyddwr hynod Matthew Xia (Wish List, Theatr y Royal Exchange & Royal Court) yn rhedeg rhwng 1 – 17 Chwe yn Theatr y Sherman (Noson y Wasg 5 Chwe 7yh).
Yn chwarae rhan Mark fydd Julian Moore-Cook, a welwyd yn ddiweddar yn Mother Courage and her Children gyda Josie Lawrence yn Southwark Playhouse; Siwan Morris (Bird, Theatr y Sherman & Royal Exchange Manceinion) fydd yn chwarae rhan Mary, ysbryd o’r Nadolig-a-fu sy’n dyfod i geisio sbarduno newid; a bydd Simon Wolfe, a welwyd yn Theatr y Sherman ddiwethaf yn The Weir gan Conor McPherson, yn ymgymryd â rhan chwerw, cwerylgar a tywyll-ddoniol John.
Dywed y cyfarwyddwr Matthew Xia “Rwyf wrth fy modd o gael gwneud fy debut cyfarwyddo yng Nghymru yn y Sherman, a gyda drama mor aruthrol. Mae Conor McPherson wedi creu stori cydwedd â Christmas Carol Dickens – ond mae’r eneidiau sy’n ymweld â’n Scrooge ni yn dyfod ar ffurf hylifol a does ond un cais fechan gan ysbryd y Nadolig a fu. Mae’r ddrama hon, yn debyg i holl ysgrifau Conor, yn llawn dop o drugaredd, dynoliaeth, pathos a hiwmor athrylith o dywyll.”
Dublin Carol yw cynhyrchiad cyntaf tymor Gwanwyn 2018 hir ddisgwyliedig Theatr y Sherman. Wedi’i boenydio gan ysbrydion di-sigl ei orffennol mae ymgymerwr Gwyddelig yn ail-fyw stori llwm ei fywyd dinistriol a’i gamddefnydd o alcohol.
