NYJO Receives £5,000 Grant from the Arts Council of Wales, Enabling Mini-Tour of West Wales, February 2018

The National Youth Jazz Orchestra is delighted to be performing in Aberystwyth and Swansea on the 24 and 25 February 2018 thanks to a generous grant from the Arts Council of Wales. The tour will begin on Saturday 24 February at Aberystwyth Arts Centre with a programme of classics from the ‘Great American Songbook’. This popular programme explores the very best jazz standards from the 1920s to the 1950s, with classics from Cole Porter (Love for Sale, I’ve Got you Under my Skin), Hoagy Carmichael (Georgia on My Mind) and George Gershwin (Embraceable You). NYJO will begin the day at Aberystwyth Arts Centre with a series of workshops, including an open access improvisation workshop for students from Ceredigion, in partnership with Ceredigion Music Service, and a side-by-side workshop with the 6 Counties Big Band spearheaded by Carmarthenshire Music Service, before the 6 Counties Big Band joins NYJO on stage for the evening concert. Tickets are available from Aberystwyth Arts Centre on 01970 62 32 32 or online at www.aberystwythartscentre.co.uk

NYJO's Artistic Director said “NYJO last toured to Wales in 2014 with a workshop series and performance in Abergavenny, and we visit the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff annually for NYJO auditions. We always receive a very warm welcome from the Welsh audience, but we’d like to be working much more in the country. Thanks to the support from the Arts Council of Wales it is fantastic to return with a mini tour of workshops and performances; we hope this is the start of a more regular partnership with Ceredigion Music Service and the local jazz community.”

NYJO yn Derbyn Grant o £5,000 gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru, i Alluogi Taith Fechan o Orllewin Cymru, Chwefror 2018

Mae’r Gerddorfa Jazz Ieuenctid Genedlaethol (NYJO) yn falch iawn i fod yn perfformio yn Aberystwyth ac Abertawe ar y 24 a 25 Chwefror 2018 diolch i grant hael gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru. Bydd y daith yn dechrau ar ddydd Sadwrn 24 Chwefror yng Nghanolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth gyda rhaglen o glasuron o ‘The Great American Songbook’. Mae’r rhaglen boblogaidd hon yn archwilio’r safonau jazz gorau o'r 1920au i’r 1950au, gyda chlasuron gan Cole Porter (Love for Sale, I’ve Got you Under my Skin), Hoagy Carmichael (Georgia on My Mind) a George Gershwin (Embraceable You). Bydd NYJO yn dechrau'r dydd yng Nghanolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth gyda chyfres o weithdai byrfyfyr agored i fyfyrwyr o Geredigion, mewn partneriaeth â Gwasanaeth Cerddoriaeth Ceredigion, a gweithdy ochr yn ochr gyda Band Mawr y Chwe Sir dan arweiniad Gwasanaeth Cerddoriaeth Sir Gaerfyrddin, cyn i Fand Mawr y Chwe Sir ymuno â NYJO ar y llwyfan ar gyfer cyngerdd gyda’r nos. Mae tocynnau ar gael o Ganolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth.

Meddai Cyfarwyddwr Artistig NYJO Mark Armstrong: “Y tro diwethaf i'r NYJO deithio i Gymru oedd yn 2014 gyda chyfres o weithdai a pherfformiad yn y Fenni, ac rydyn ni'n ymweld yn flynyddol â Choleg Brenhinol Cerdd a Drama Cymru ar gyfer clyweliadau NYJO. Byddwn yn cael croeso cynnes bob tro gan gynulleidfaoedd Cymru, ond fe hoffem fod yn gweithio llawer mwy yn y wlad hon. Diolch i gefnogaeth Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru, mae’n wych cael dychwelyd gyda thaith fechan o weithdai a pherfformiadau; gobeithio y bydd hyn yn gychwyn ar bartneriaeth fwy rheolaidd gyda Gwasanaeth Cerddoriaeth Ceredigion a’r gymuned jazz leol.”
