Theatr Pena return with the Company’s first co-production with Taliesin Arts Centre, a dynamic and visually rich production of a very ancient tale of betrayal and retribution.
Woman of Flowers is a strikingly poetic reimagining of the Mabinogi myth of Blodeuwedd by award-winning Welsh writer Siôn Eirian in which he skilfully combines Saunders Lewis’s Welsh language verse drama of the same name with original material to create a captivating dark fantasy.
The cast includes Theatr Pena Company Members, the award-winning actresses Betsan Llwyd as the embittered goddess Arianrhod and Eiry Thomas as the malevolent wizard Gwydion and veteran Welsh actress and singer Olwen Rees as Blodeuwedd’s loyal maid Rhagnell. Rhys Meredith, who played Tom Wingfield in Theatr Pena’s acclaimed production of The Glass Menagerie, returns to the Company to play the treacherous Lord Gronw. Appearing with Theatr Pena for the first time is award winning actress Sara Gregory as the woman of flowers Blodeuwedd and Oliver Morgan-Thomas as the betrayed warrior prince Llew.
Director Erica Eirian, Composer Peter Knight, Movement Director Caroline Lamb, Designer Holly McCarthy, Lighting Designer Kay Haynes and Creative Producer Ceri James, the team behind the Company’s successful spring 2016 touring production of The Glass Menagerie, are joined by Cameraman Peter Firth and the BAFTA winning Film Editor Dafydd Hunt. Together they have created a very different production from the Company’s previous work which imaginatively fuses poetic text, film, movement and music to create for audiences an exciting, performance experience.
Woman of Flowers opens in Taliesin Arts Centre for a run of three performances: Thursday 1st February, Friday 2nd February (press night) and Saturday 3rd February before touring Wales from Tuesday 6th February to Friday 9th March to the following venues:
