ELAN Wales: Creatio creative power-stations

The aim is to address issues of exclusion and marginalisation through a programme of art as survival: activities are going to be taking place across Wales and Europe within an artistic framework that promotes true integration of races, gender, ability, culture and artistic languages. The training will be developed through two major operating centres in Wales and Italy and through a series of residencies set up in under-privileged and under-resourced areas.

³We aim to develop a concept of training which is active, inspiring, and open to experimentation, rather than being just a passive acquisition of skills,² says ELAN¹s artistic director Ms Firenza Guidi.

³We want to explore longterm strategies for innovation and are working in partnership with a host of organisations to achieve our aims.²

The collaborating artists and insitutitions are: The Welsh College of Music and Drama (Cardiff); The National Youth Theatre of Wales; Festival Marea 2001, Comune di Fucecchio (Florence, Italy); Theatre du Nord (Lille, France); Cantabile 2 (Vordingberg, Denmark); Gog i Magog (Catalunya); Hvar Festival (Croatia); The Samuel Beckett Centre (Trinity College, Dublin); Theatre of Fire (Dublin); Sapce Cadets (Manchester); Chapter Arts Centre Cardiff); CASAMAX (Cologne, Germany); Theater der Figur (Nenzing, Austria).

Steamed Pork Pies is the first such collaboration with Creation Community Development Ltd, who are based at the Blaengarw Workmen¹s Hall. The performance montage is being staged on March 16 and 17 only at 8pm. Creatio - creative power-stations will culminate in a showing at Lille, France, for European City of Culture in 2004.
